'Dear Sir: The follotiring invitation was then read: Superior, Wisconsin April 22, 1930. Preliminary announcement has already gone out of 'Through Highways Conference to be held at Ladysmith upon Saturday, May 10, 1930, at the Court House, com-nencing at ten o'clock A. M. This meeting is called pursuant to action taken at the conference at Superior of last December. It is hoped at the meeting at Ladysmith to be able to agree upon a definite legislative program for the purpose of securing the. completion of a system of Through Hard Surface Highways in the State of tiIisconsin, which may be used through- out the entire year. An invitation is issued to you, and to all others in North Wisconsin intereste at the meeting in this subject, to attend the meeting. :'here were over 200 in attendance/in Superior in December. From responses received to date it is apparent that the attendance at the meeting at Ladysmith will exceed the att-endance at the Superior meeting. The subject of Through Highways is one of the most important and vital matters confronting the people of Wisconsin. It is essential to North Wisconsin that some program be worked out that will receive the approval of the entire state. It is import- ant that we approach the subject from a broad state viewpoint; that we consider, the interests of every section of the state; that we attempt to outline a definite program and that sentiment be so crystalized that its adoption may be secured. It is hoped that the matter will be given consideration: in every community and.public sentiment crystalized in a definite way. In order that the citizens of Ladysmith may know hoer many to plan for, will you kindly advise I . Theodore Crone of Ladysmith, Oecretary of the Ladysrith Civic Club, as to how many will attend the meeting from your corruiiunity. Very truly yours, CLARENCE J. BefoZe opening the bids your committee secured estimates as to the cost of construction as shown by the plans. We also secured estimates of cost of building a one-story brick faced addition on the rear of the building and decided it would be unwise to open bids. The original plan would increase the Treasurer's vault 4'- 80 SPECIAL METING 0-F THE BAYFIBLD COUNTY BOARD APRIL 29, 1930. i space, but not enough to enable.hiin to take over all the records required by law to be in his possession. It would cut off considerable room from the County Clerks j office. In other words, whore we had one crowded office before, we would then have j two crowded offices. The proposed addition on the rear of the building would cost a little more, but would solve the problem for many years under the present rate of usurpation of vault space. 'Ve have, therefor, requested the architect to draw up another set of plans which are now ready. At this writing your committee has not seen the new plans but they will be here in time for the board meeting, and submitted to you for your consideration. Bids were opened on February 27, 1930, and a contract was let for $400 for installation of ventilation systems in the basement of the Register of Deeds and County Clerk's vaults.
