uDJOURNED AN1Vi711L METING OF .THE BAYFIELD COUNTY BOARD
-- `— - -- T PdARC H 102 1936
We have been much interested in the County Park Systeri.which is being fostered
by Bayfield County, In the vicinity of Chequamegon Springs there is a Forty of land
which just crosses Highway 13. It would be very easy to cut, the firewood from this Forty.
But it seems to me because'of its being in the 7iild Life Reservation and be-
cause of its proximity to the Highway, and because it is such a wonderfully well adapted
piece of land for the breeding of partridge that it would he a shame to have somebody
buy this Forty ofland from the County and denude it. If there is any danger of this
happening I wish to purchase it and keep it as a preserve for wild life. But better
still I presume would be to have the County establish it as a part of its park system.
I think the description is this: Township 49 N - R 4 :d - NZ-14 of the NE- of Section 5.
To make it easy to locate I would describe it thus: Driving toward Bayfield
it lies to the left shortly after crossing the Onion River bridge. Just after crossing
the bridge there is a clearinE; on both sides of the road made by the Highway Contractor
when the ne,,r road was made. He found the land too low and, therefore, the State est-
ablished a borrow pit a little farther to•aard Bayfield. This Forty lies to the left of
the road and the SE corner just crosses the Highway. The South line of this Forty is the
North line of this piece of land cleared for a borrow pit but not used. The land is roll-
ing with ravines in it. There is much poplar, little birch, and some evergreens. It is,
a beautiful place for partridge and I am anxious that it be preserved for all time.
regain I state if there is,any question in the minds of your group about not
placin(; it in the Park System that I will gladly purchase it and hold it as a wild life
preserve. ,

Dear r. Tranmal:
I am advised that the larra Credit Administration ,will again provide seed for
farmers who are in need.
They are asking that the county provide per diem and traveling expenses for
the cor aittee iVhile in session. Last year this was handled through the Relief Depart-
ment. That is, one clerk and the committee was charged to adrni.nistrat =ion. This could
not have been done except by charging it to some other department.
Loans of this nature should be handled by the _Agricultural Department, of your
County. It would seem that, your Igricultural 21gent is side-stepping his duties when he
says let Smith do it. I thinT_ he Will agree with me when I say that it takes about the
entire day to make out three applications, and it takes quite an efficient stenographer.
