Bayfield County Clerk
Washburn, Wisconsin
Dear Bayfield County Board of Supervisors:
We want to construct a fish farm and hatchery business in the Cranberry River
area. We have chosen this site because, 1. It has the proper terrain for this operation
and 2. We feel the area needs the industry to offer employment for local residents,
and 3. Increase the tax economy of the north Wisconsin area.
When the idea presented itself to us, we began investigating it's possibilities.
We have visited state hatcheries .in Brule, Spooner, St. Croix Falls, Osceola, and
Lewis, Wisconsin,
Bayfield, and private hatcheries in Butternut, Wisconsin,,,,and Taylor Falls, Minnesota.
We are convinced that such a business can work, if the management is right and the
terrain is right.
The business we are hoping to get started will not interfere with present
hunting and fishing on the Cranberry River, due to the fact that the area we would use
would be over a hundred feet to the west side of the river.
This property is in the Town of Clover, presently under Bayfield County Forest
Crop, of the following descriptions;
Township 49, North Range 7 West, Section 3, SE NW
Township 49, North Range 7 West, Section 3, SW NW
Township 49, North Range 7 West, Section 3, NE .SW
Township 49, North Range 7 West, Section 3, NW SE
We have been told that in order to acquire the property, it must first be
approved by the county board. We would appreciate your support when the matter is
brought up.
Thank you.
Sincerely yours,
Erwin J,. LeBel

RECOMMENDATION
To the Bayfield County Board of Supervisors:
As per attached letter, your Forestry Committee has considered the request of
Lawrence LeBel, Herbster, Wisconsin, to purchase the S36 NWY, NE/ SWA, NV/4 SE/9 of
Section 3, Township 49, Range 7 West. Said lands now being under the Forest Crop Law®
Your Forestry Committee recommends that this request be denied as the East branch
of the Cranberry River runs through these descriptions and it is felt that the selling
of said lands would not be to the best interest of Bayfield County.
