HomeMy WebLinkAboutAd Hoc Business Park Planning Committee - Minutes - 9/6/2017 Minutes of the Bayfield County Ad Hoc Business Park Planning Committee Meeting 1:30pm, Wednesday, September 6, 2017 Business Park, Ashland, WI Members Participating: Scottie Sandstrom, Mark Abeles-Allison, Leo Carlson, Preston Mikula Members Excused: Mike Bebeau, Brett Rondeau Others Attending: Tony Johanik, Bill Johnson, Bayfield Electric, Russ Fish, Mitch Thromberg Sandstrom called the meeting to order at 1:33pm PUBLIC COMMENT: None Minutes of August 2, 2017: Motion Carlson, Preston to approve minutes of the meeting. Motion carried. Item 4: CS reported that design work is nearing completion. Preparing for bid. Scottie and Mark will work on USDA and CDBG Item 5: Marketing Efforts update. Scottie noted one response on the recent mailing. Scottie noted recent discussions with Cardinal Business on Highway 13 who received the mailing and expressed some interest as well. A gentleman by Lake Namakagon responded and Scottie visited with this Business. Still low response but seeds are planted. Articles in the Press: Recent articles were included in area papers, Business North, Bottom Line News Personal Contacts: Scottie planning outreach at a number of trade shows. KBJR is willing to do business videos. Should BCEDC do a BCEDC video. Both Ashland Ford and Norvado are looking at video options. Economic Development opportunity in the Business Park. “We are here because….” Item 6: Business Park Well Test. Scottie noted after multiple contacts and that well driller raised doubts about a large volume of water at the business park. Well driller noted reasonable water but not very high volume. He recommended testing to determine constant flow. Well driller would test for: bacteria, nitrate and arsenic. $300. Pump rental $500, $200 hour for 10 hours. Total = $3000. Would be able to report what pumping capacity there was. Refit well would cost around $8265 for 40/60 5hp pump. Alternate is for constant pressure pump system, VAR, $9465. Casing in place. Drop pipe. Concern about casing may be aging and rusted. Around 250 feet deep. Questions about this paying itself off. Committee not taking action at this time. Item 7: Plans for Business Park Road Funding. USDA and CDBG. Item 8. Budget Planning: $500k, with $250,000. Gravel road all the way to 137. County could request for 3 phase line extension on the south side of the road. County would need to make a formal request. Discussed need to install three phase after the road is constructed. Should consider installation of tubes for electricity. Leo, request for utility proposals, provide a plan for telecom (10 gig/fiber), power (3 phase) and natural gas how they would serve the business and implement and infrastructure costs if any, seconded by. Use document diagram in the proposal. Ask for timeline,. Include drawing with road to Hwy 137, Preston second. Motion carried 4-0. Meeting Adjourned: 2:35 NEXT MEETING. October 11, 1:30
