Minutes of the:
Bayfield County Ad-Hoc Business Park Planning Committee
Wednesday August 1st, 2018 – 1:30 p.m.
Bayfield County Business Park, Ashland, WI
1) Call to Order;
The Bayfield County Ad Hoc Business Park Planning County was called to order at 1:31 p.m. by
Chairman Scottie Sandstrom. A roll call was taken by Scottie Sandstrom, as follows, present:
Chairman-Scottie Sandstrom, County Administrator-Mark Abeles-Allison, Bayfield County
Board Member-Marty Milanowski, and Preston Mikula from Ashland Ford Chrysler. Absent
were: Mike BeBeau and Leo Carlson. Total: 4 present, 2 absent. A quorum was present to
conduct business.
Also present were: Larry Roecker from Bayfield Electric, Dana Wiezorek from Bottom Line
News and Views, and Clerk III–Allison Radke.
2) Public Comment; No public comment was received.
3) Minutes from May 2, 2018;
A motion was made by Abeles-Allison, Milanowski to adopt the minutes of the May 2nd, 2018
Bayfield County Ad-Hoc Business Park meeting. The motion carried.
4) Meeting with Bottom Line News and Views;
Committee members reported on the goals and projects of the Bayfield County Business Park.
There are 5 business parks in Bayfield County. The Bayfield County Business Park has natural
gas, fiber optics, and three-phase electric from Bayfield Electric. According to County
Administrator- Abeles-Allison, much of the work is yet to be done to attract and encourage more
businesses to locate in Bayfield County. Comments were received from committee members
including: information on the positive aspects of the business park and a list of the different
businesses that are currently operating from the Bayfield County Business Park. Committee
members took a walk and tour with reporter Wiezorek for an upcoming news article.
5) Update on USDA and TEA funding for Business Park;
Abeles-Allison reported on USDA funding in the amount of $99,000 for the road project. DOT

TEA funding is still in process. Bayfield County spent $250,000 on the road in addition to
USDA funding.
6) Next Steps for the Business Park:
Chairman Sandstrom gave a review of Cedar Corporation recommended next steps. #1 was
completed. Discussed recommendation #2 map/dedicate proposed road right-of-ways and
easements. The committee decided to rezone as needed for #3. Step #4 has been completed/ is in
process. It was reported that Ashland Ford Chrysler recently put in a mound system and the soil
has sustained. The committee decided that #5 will be addressed as needed. Step #6 is pending.
#7 was reviewed and determined that is it not to be addressed at this time. #8 requires follow-up.
#9 was completed December 2017. #10 has also been accomplished. #11 is still in progress.
Efforts have been made towards #11.
The committee also discussed a business from Bayfield moving to the Bayfield County Business
Park.
7) Business Park Marketing Discussion;
Chairman Sandstorm gave updates regarding the following points:
• Potential attendance Tuesday, August 28 APEX Site Selection 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in
Duluth. This event will help encourage business site developments.
• A marketing consultant (Addy) was discussed. Sandstrom mentioned shovel-ready sites.
• Committee marketing options and tasks: Ideas included a restaurant, distribution center
for soda, beer, contractors, call center, delivery, trucking, etc. Bayfield County will soon
be a certified telecommuter community.
• Getting the word out – website, pamphlets, personal contacts, marketing, reach out
further
8) Updates from members; No updates were received.
9) Adjournment;
The next meeting date for the Committee will be on Wednesday September 5th at 1:30 p.m. at
the Bayfield County Business Park.
There being no further business to come before the Bayfield County Ad-Hoc Business Park
Planning Committee, a motion was made by Milanowski, Mikula to adjourn the meeting. The
motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 2:51 p.m.
