Bayfield County Ad-Hoc Business Park Planning Committee
Wednesday November 13th, 2019 – 1:30 p.m.
Bayfield County Business Park, Ashland, WI

AD HOC BUSINESS PARK PLANNING COMMITTEE

1. Call to Order;
The Bayfield County Ad Hoc Business Park Planning County was called to order at 1:34 p.m.
A roll call was taken by Chair Cole Rabska, as follows, present: Cole Rabska from BCEDC,
County Administrator-Mark Abeles-Allison, Preston Mikula, Marty Milanowski. Absent: Vice-
Chair Leo Carlson, Mike BeBeau. Total: 4 present, 2 absent. A quorum was present to conduct
business.
Also present: Clerk III–Allison Radke; Diane Berweger from Bayfield Electric.
2. Public Comment; None received.
3. Minutes from July 10th, 2019 and October 16th, 2019;
A motion was made by Abeles-Allison, Milanowski to adopt the minutes of the July 10th, 2019
and the October 16th, 2019 Bayfield County Ad-Hoc Business Park meetings. No edits or
corrections. Motion carried.
4. New signage for the corner of State Hwy 137 and State Farm Road;
a) Approval of the design and purchase of the header sign (Including installation);
A sample sign was shown. It will cost $350 with installation for the header sign. $170 for the lower
signs. All are double-sided.
Motion by Milanowski, Abeles-Allison to approve the design and the purchase of the header sign
for $350. Motion approved.
b) Update the Superior Sauna sign style;

The Committee is seeking a graphic to review.
5. Current status of new advertising signs;
a) Removal date for small placard signs (Weather related);
Small stick signs along the ground will be removed for the winter.
b) Removal or remain of the banner signs on the poles at the corners of the lots (Weather
related);
Banners were $84 each. They will be taken down today due to winter conditions to prevent damage.
Reinstall in the Spring.
c) Interest received from the banner/placard signs. An email has been received to date;
One email was received from an individual from Solon Springs, Wisconsin. Cole is following up.
6. Business Attraction Opportunities (New and existing);
Comments were received including:
• Northern Clearing was mentioned in regard to finding a business that might help them operate.
• The Committee also discussed World Class and their search for a new facility.
• Memorial Medical Center is constructing a new building.
• Northlakes continues to expand.
Bayfield Electric has 10-year low interest loans for entities in the Bayfield Electric service area.
7. Events used for additional exposure;
a) Ground breaking Street naming ceremony for Argenbright Road;
A spring ceremony was discussed. Abeles-Allison and Milanowski will contact the Bayfield
County and Eileen Historical Societies for more information regarding the family and their history.
Invite a guest from the UW-Extension (former Agricultural Station).
Ideas included: posters, tents, invite the Governor, combine the event with a KV Tech ground
breaking. It was discussed to plan for a May ceremony. This will be added to next month’s agenda
for further discussion.
b) Summer 2020 – plans for a general event on site;
The focus will be on the May event.
8. Update on KV Tech;
There were some delays regarding zoning and receiving a fire number and a physical address. Due
to the time of year, the project will be continued in the spring of 2020.

9. Press Release(s) ideas;
It was suggested to have short interviews with existing Bayfield County Business Park businesses.
Another idea was to write an article regarding the history of the property and ownership. Bayfield
Electric offered to have a link to the Business Park’s website on their homepage.
a) New banners and placards have been placed for advertising;
The banners will be removed making this less of an option.
b) Land for Sale – some already zoned commercial, other land can be rezoned for specific use;
Publishing a press release focusing on the land for sale was another idea.
10. Updates from members;
A video was suggested for advertising purposes. Ideas included: commentator, 30 second video,
drone footage, and still picture. Norvado was suggested as an option. Mark Abeles-Allison will
follow up on this.
There is buried 3-phase electric from Bayfield Electric. Xcel Energy also has 3-phase electric at the
Business Park. Internet access was discussed. Norvado has access at the Bayfield County Business
Park.
11. Adjournment.
The next meeting for the Business Park Committee will be: Wednesday December 11, 2019 at
2:00 p.m. at the Bayfield County Business Park. (Note the time change.)
There being no further business to come before the Bayfield County Ad-Hoc Business Park
Planning Committee, the meeting was adjourned at 2:35 p.m.
