Bayfield County Ad-Hoc Business Park Planning Committee
Wednesday December 11th, 2019 – 1:30 p.m.
Bayfield County Business Park, Ashland, WI

1. Call to Order;
The Bayfield County Ad Hoc Business Park Planning County was called to order at 2:04 p.m.
A roll call was taken by Chair Cole Rabska, as follows, present: Cole Rabska from BCEDC,
County Administrator-Mark Abeles-Allison, Preston Mikula, Vice-Chair Leo Carlson, Mike
BeBeau. Absent: Marty Milanowski. Total: 5 present, 1 absent. A quorum was present to conduct
business.
Also present: Clerk III–Allison Radke.
2. Public Comment; None received.
3. Minutes from December 11th, 2019;
A motion was made by Abeles-Allison, Mikula to adopt the minutes of the November 13th, 2019
Bayfield County Ad-Hoc Business Park meetings. No edits or corrections. Motion carried.
4. Status of the signs from Shawn A for the corner of State Hwy 137 and State Farm Road;
Updates were given regarding the signs on State Highway 137 and State Farm Road. Posts are now
up. Mikula will finalize the order for the signage.
5. Ribbon cutting/Road naming plans;
Abeles-Allison has contacted Governor Evers and Senator Bewley regarding a May ceremony.
Another contact was made with a past Superintendent of the UW Research Farm. It was
recommended that Abeles-Allison also invite Representative Meyers, Visions Northwest, Ashland
Area Development Corporation, Northwest Regional Planning, Impact 7, Ashland, Washburn, and
Bayfield Chamber of Commerces, Cedar Corporation, C&S Design & Engineering, Senator Ron
Johnson, Senator Tammy Baldwin, and invite the local papers. A weekday afternoon was
suggested, maybe Wednesday or Thursday May 20th or 21st 1, 1:30, or 2 p.m. Comments were
received including: renting a tent in case it rains, serving hot dogs, having a program in Town Hall,
having a rain location, conducting a grant check presentation. Ideas for the Business Park included:
a distribution center for Kwik Trip, a wood yard for spring break up in order to create traffic, fuel
needs, maintenance, scale employees. Cole will mention it at his upcoming meeting on January 28th
to the Wood Industry Collaborative.
6. Business Park Prospects and Action Plan;
Comments were received regarding the Business Park prospects and action plan. A Washburn Iron
support business was suggested as an idea. Mikula will speak to his contact. The consensus was that
it is fine to pursue options that would primarily involve a lease for storage for a business.
7. Winter 2019 Marketing plans;
It was suggested to publish a small advertisement or insert in the monthly newsletters with local
Chambers. Rabska will look into this. Visions Northwest has a quarterly newsletter. The idea was
proposed to connect with current Business Park residents like Bayfield Foods, Superior Sauna, KV
Tech, and St. Iz’s Acres.
8. Spring ceremony in May;
This agenda item was previously discussed. See agenda item number 5.
9. Discussion regarding Committee by-laws;
A discussion was held regarding the Committee by-laws. The Committee agreed to allow another
member from Bayfield Electric.
10. Updates from members;
Updates were provided from Xcel Energy and Norvado. Norvado is applying for Public Service
Commission (PSC) grants for area broadband, including in Red Cliff. A discussion was held
regarding internet connectivity throughout Bayfield County.
11. Adjournment.
The next meeting for the Business Park Committee will be: Wednesday January 15, 2019 at 1:30
p.m. at the Bayfield County Business Park.
There being no further business to come before the Bayfield County Ad-Hoc Business Park
Planning Committee, the meeting was adjourned at 3:08 p.m.
