Minutes of the:
Bayfield County Ad-Hoc Business Park Planning Committee
Wednesday May 8th, 2019 – 1:30 p.m.
Bayfield County Business Park, Ashland, WI
1. Call to Order;
The Bayfield County Ad Hoc Business Park Planning County was called to order at 1:35 p.m.
A roll call was taken by Chair Cole Rabska, as follows, present: Cole Rabska from BCEDC,
County Administrator-Mark Abeles-Allison, Preston Mikula, Marty Milanowski. Absent: Mike
BeBeau, Vice-Chair Leo Carlson. Total: 4 present, 2 absent. A quorum was present to conduct
business. Also present: Clerk III–Allison Radke.
2. Public Comment; No public comment was received.
3. Minutes from March 13, 2019;
A motion was made by Milanowski, Mikula to adopt the minutes of the March 13th, 2019
Bayfield County Ad-Hoc Business Park meeting. No edits or corrections. Motion carried.
4. Marketing Efforts including:
a. Progress of Business Park Sign Permit;
The Bayfield County Zoning Department has all the application and the payment was
received. Chair Rabska is communicating with the businesses regarding the sign. The
sign will not be ordered until the Zoning permit is approved.
b. Social Media campaign, suggestions and ideas;
There was a discussion regarding different ways to campaign and promote the Bayfield
County Business Park. Ideas included: drone videos, marketing videos, listing the amount
of traffic that goes by on US Highway 2, promoting as an all-season road, informing on
the proximity to 3 states in 90 minutes, taking pictures at the end of the meetings, hot air
balloon rides, car show, etc. Numerous ideas were suggested.
c. Press Articles, topic review;
Construction updates were received regarding KVTech. They will be breaking ground
soon.

A potential for three press releases were discussed: 1. Announcing the contest. 2.
Announcing the winner. 3. Announcing road naming ribbon cutting ceremony.
5. 2019 Business Park Activity Report;
a. Construction;
KVTech will be starting construction soon.
b. Utilities;
There was discussion about three-phase electric for the Business Park.
c. Ribbon Cutting Ceremony;
Different ideas for ribbon cutting ceremonies included: for KVTech’s ground breaking,
new road ribbon cutting, road naming ribbon cutting. Periodic press releases were
suggested (once a month approximately). There was an idea to have a social media road-
naming contest. It would cost approximately $100,000-$200,000 to pave/blacktop the
road.
d. Water/Sewer Considerations;
Different options for water/sewer were discussed. It cost approximately ¼ million dollars
at Telemark. If a dairy were to process at the Business Park, the water and sewer would
need to be a consideration. There are 35 dairy farms in Ashland and Bayfield Counties.
6. Updates/Ideas regarding Businesses to Contact and Recruitment;
A discussion was held regarding businesses to contact and recruitment. Chair Rabska will be
meeting with Seth Hudson from Cedar Corporation. There is a grant for about $500,000. No one
has received the grant in Wisconsin yet. The committee would like to draft a proposal with
Hudson. A cheese factory was suggested. Investors would be interested. Supporting local
agriculture and local farmers was discussed.
7. Updates from members; None received.
8. Adjournment.
The next meeting for the Business Park Committee will be: Wednesday June 12, 2019 at 1:30
p.m. at the Bayfield County Business Park.
There being no further business to come before the Bayfield County Ad-Hoc Business Park
Planning Committee, the meeting was adjourned at 2:19 p.m.
A motion was made by Milanowski, Mikula to adjourn the Bayfield County Business Park
meeting. Motion carried.
