HomeMy WebLinkAboutExecutive Committee - Minutes - 5/17/2005L:\COMMITTEES AND BOARDS\EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE\2005\Executive Committee Minutes 051705.doc Page 1 of 2 Minutes of the Bayfield County Executive Committee Meeting May 17, 2005 4:00pm Bayfield County Board Room Members present: Brett Rondeau, Kenneth Jardine, John Blahnik, Harold Maki, Neil Paulson, Verne Gilles Others Present: Mark Abeles-Allison, Kris Kavajecz, Bill Damberg, and citizens. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Rondeau at 4:00pm. Motion Regarding Minutes of the April 26, 2005 Executive Committee Meeting; Motion by Jardine second by Maki to approve the minutes of the April 26, 2005 meeting. Motion Carried. Discussion & Possible Action Regarding a request from Ashwabay Outdoor Educational Foundation, Inc pertaining to the Mt. Ashwabay Ski Area. Bill Damberg with the Ashwabay Outdoor Educational Foundation, Inc made a presentation to the committee. The Foundation is in the process of purchasing the Mt Ashwabay property and is interested in maintaining the integrity of the area. The property encompasses 200 acres outside of Bayfield. Damberg is talking to several organizations, including Bayfield County, to consider a succession plan for the property if something were to happen to the Foundation. Maki asked what the current taxes are on the property. The AOEF will be closing on the property on June 30, 2005. No action is requested at this time. The topic is being brought to the attention of Bayfield County for potential future consideration. Discussion and Possible action Regarding County Strategic Planning Process. Abeles-Allison provided several handouts with an update on the departments that have submitted strategic planning information as well as draft strategic planning information related to the County Administrator’s office. The Mission statement for the Criminal Justice Coordinator was reviewed. Discussion and Possible action on the Ashland Experiment Station Status Abeles-Allison provided background on the status of the Ashland Ag Experiment Station. Representatives of the University of Wisconsin Extension will be in the area next week to discuss the status of the Ag Station. Discussion took place regarding various uses for the station. Financial Update: The April 2005 Treasurer’s report and April 2005 Budget Summary were reviewed. Handouts were provided. Comment from Maki that he would like the county to consider sharing Executive Session Information with all County Board members. Brief discussion took place. Abeles-Allison provided an update on staff vacancies. NAZCA: Abeles-Allison reviewed the handout, which pertains to a data sharing technology for land information on a regional basis. Several county department heads attended a presentation on this technology last week. County Office Space: Two inquiries have been received regarding office space in the annex building. Options are being explored. Abeles-Allison asked for input on the location of County offices. The labor-management group will be meeting on May 25, 2005 at 2:30 to hear a presentation regarding Health Retirement and/or Health Savings accounts. The committee may enter in and out of Executive Session pursuant to Wisconsin Statutes §19.85(1)(c,e) to discuss employee performance, employment and bargaining issues. Motion by Blahnik, second by Paulson to enter in and out of Executive Session pursuant to Wisconsin Statutes §19.85(1)(c,e) to discuss employee performance, employment and bargaining issues. Motion Carried. Motion by Jardine, second by Maki to return to open session. Motion Carried. Motion by Jardine, second by Blahnik to adjourn. Motion Carried. Meeting adjourned at 5:30 pm.
