Bayfield County Executive Committee Meeting

Meeting called to order at 10:00 am by Chairman Rondeau.
Minutes of January 17, 2008: Motion Jardine, Kacvinsky to approve. Motion Carried.
Fleet Vehicle Bids: Committee reviewed bids received from two local dealerships for a meal
transport vehicle and two cars. Two Taurus’ will be sold in the Spring.
Courthouse Exterior Restoration Request for Proposals: Abeles-Allison explained that a pre-
qualification process resulted in 6 interested contractors. RFP’s will be sent to contractors
meeting the pre-qualification requirements. There is $400,000 in the 2007 budget to begin this
project, which will take place over several years and will be broken into several phases. The first
phase will be the front of the courthouse including the balcony, steps and columns. Suggestion
was made to contact the City of Bayfield and National Park Service regarding the brownstone
work they have recently had completed.
Motion Gordon, Kacvinsky to move forward with the RFP process as explained. RFP’s to be
reviewed by the Executive Committee with a recommendation to the full county board regarding
the contractor selected for the project. Motion Carried.
Ag Station Land Use Plan: Abeles-Allison reviewed the draft Land Use Plan for Ag Station
Properties. A timeline for planning activities and meetings was reviewed.
Department of Interior Letter Regarding Property for Sale: Motion Gordon, Jardine that if
no county departments show interest in this property no action shall be taken. Motion Carried.
Travel/Expense/Per Diem Policy Review: Discussion regarding hotel, mileage and meal
reimbursement policy, particularly for out of state travel. The committee recommended that out
of state travel requests be approved by the County Administrator.
Reports:
2007 Year-End Financial Projection was reviewed. $765,000 in excess revenue anticipated to be
used –vs- the $1.6 million that was budgeted. Forestry and Treasurer Interest were well above
budgeted figures. Highway Committee will be discussing projected fund balances in that
department in the coming years.
Courtroom project is proceeding on schedule. Sheetrocking will begin this week.
Other Items: Department Head Evaluations are nearly complete. County Administrator
evaluation forms to be distributed in the near future.
Jardine requested statistics on the success of the Criminal Justice Program.
Abeles-Allison and Kacvinsky reported on the WCA Legislative Exchange. Senator Jauch is not
supportive of the Hwy 2 4-lane expansion issue on the Superior Days agenda. A $6 million
expansion of Murphy Oil was added as a Superior Days issue.
Gordon reported that World Class Manufacturing will be having an open house on March 29th.
