HomeMy WebLinkAboutExecutive Committee - Minutes - 2/16/2011Minutes of the Bayfield County Executive Committee Meeting 4:00 PM, February 16, 2011, Bayfield County Board Room, Washburn, WI Members Present: Beth Meyers, Brett Rondeau, Dee Kittleson, William Kacvinsky, Marco Bichanich, Kenneth Jardine Others Present: Mark Abeles-Allison-County Administrator, Stephen Schraufnagel-C&S Engineering. Meeting called to order at 4:00 pm by Rondeau. Motion Kacvinsky, Kittleson, to table approval of minutes from the February 10, 2011 Executive Committee meeting. Motion Carried. Brownstone Restoration Project: Abeles-Allison introduced Stephen Schraufnagel, C&S Engineering Services. Schraufnagel provided a review of the approach that C&S would take with regard to engineering and oversight of the proposed brownstone restoration project. Items included in his review included: South-facing façade repair, how to address snow melt, reflashing. He reviewed the firm’s experience working with historical buildings. Schraufnagel explained they have about 18 years experience working with historical buildings, including: Historical & Cultural Center, Wilmarth Mansion in Ashland, Rapberry Island Lighthouse Restoration, Outer Island Lighthouse restoration, Little Sand Bay Lighthouse restoration, and Our Lady of the Lake School/Church restoration. Schraufnagel is Chairman of the Ashland Historical Preservation Commission. Schraufnagel is familiar with the process and Dept of Interior standards for historical renovation projects. He is committed to ensuring the historical integrity of the building. Details of the project would include an inspection/visit to the site a minimum of once per week. Permitting is estimated to take about 4 weeks and the project can be bid during the permit review process. Schraufnagel exited the meeting at 4:45pm. Committee reviewed C&S Engineering’s proposal and qualifications. Motion by Kacvinsky, Bichanich to authorize Abeles-Allison to draft a contract with C&S Engineering in the amount of $22,500 for the first phase of the Brownstone Restoration Project. Abeles-Allison is also requested to conduct reference checks, require a minimum of $1million insurance coverage, and discuss tuckpoint/repair of the stone on the front of the building as part of the contract. Motion Carried. Meeting adjourned at 5:00pm.
