HomeMy WebLinkAboutPersonnel Committee - Minutes - 3/6/2008Minutes of the Bayfield County Personnel Committee Thursday, March 6, 2008 Emergency Operations Center, Washburn WI Present: Brett Rondeau-Vice-Chairman, David Good, John Blahnik-Chairman , Dee Kittleson Excused: Shawn Miller Others Present: Mark Abeles-Allison-County Administrator, Kristine Kavajecz-Confidential Secretary Called to order at 4:00pm by Chairman Blahnik. Motion Good, Rondeau to approve minutes of the January 31, 2008 Personnel Committee meeting. Motion Carried. Reports: Abeles-Allison provided an update on current position openings: The Family Services Manager position in DHS has been open for about 8 months and extensive advertising has been done. Brief discussion regarding recruiting options for this position. Cheryl Hanson has accepted the position of Social Worker/AODA Case Manager and will begin employment on March 17th. Currently recruiting for ½ time position in Land Conservation. Also recruiting for Public Health Nurse and Nutritionist/WIC Supervisor. Current Public Health Nurse has relocated her family to Michigan. The current Nutritionist is retiring in June. Mary Thiel has been contacted about possibly temporary assignment as Public Health Nurse. We are anticipating a couple of retirements in the Highway Department this year although no official notification has yet been received. Several temporary summer employment positions will be filled in the next month. Blahnik reviewed the 2007 Health Utilization Report from the GHT. Abeles-Allison reported the employee wellness fair was attended by over 70 employees and spouses. Abeles-Allison reported that the Labor-Management Committee has been discussing a Flexible Work Schedule option for employees. The group is also discussing energy conservation ideas. Abeles-Allison reported that a blood pressure cuff was broken in the Health Department storage area resulting in a mercury contamination with exposure to two employees. Clean-up procedures were discussed. A suggestion was made that a mercury sweep of the courthouse and annex be considered. Motion Good, Rondeau, to enter in and out of Executive Session pursuant to Wisconsin Statutes §19.85(1)(c,e) for the purpose of approving Executive Session minutes of the January 31, 2008 Personnel Committee meeting and discussion & possible action regarding union and non-union wage and benefits issues as well as performance evaluation discussion. Roll Call Vote: All-Yes, motion carried. Abeles-Allison, Kavajecz remained in the closed session. Motion Good, Rondeau to return to open session. Roll Call Vote: All-Yes, Motion Carried. Abeles-Allison provided an update on the vehicle policy as it relates to who may drive or ride in county vehicles. Three options for modified verbiage were provided. The committee will place this item on the next agenda for action. Motion Rondeau, Kittleson to adjourn. Motion Carried. Meeting adjourned at 5:30 pm.
