HomeMy WebLinkAboutPersonnel Committee - Minutes - 4/5/2012Minutes of the Bayfield County Personnel Committee Meeting 4:00 PM, April 5, 2012, Emergency Operations Center, Bayfield County Annex, Washburn, WI Members Present: Beth Meyers, Brett Rondeau, Shawn Miller, William Bussey, Dee Kittleson Others Present: County Administrator Mark Abeles-Allison, Kristine Kavajecz-Confidential Secretary, Scott Fibert-County Clerk Meeting called to order at 4:05pm by Chairman Rondeau Motion Miller, Meyers to approve minutes of the March 1, 2012 meeting. Motion Carried. Department Prioritization and Planning: Abeles-Allison reported that the committee has met with several departments to date as a part of this review process. Scott Fibert, County Clerk reported on the status of his department. Anticipated that there will be one retirement in the next couple of years. Plan at that time would be to reorganize the work load in the department. Staffing is sufficient for the activities of the department, but would prefer not to see staffing reduced. Staffing was reduced by ½ time position several years ago. Election requirements are constantly changing. Significant contact with town and school clerks. Bayfield County is somewhat unique when compared with other counties in that the County Clerk’s office in most counties do not handle accounting functions. Voluntary Dental and Disability Insurances: Labor-Management Committee has reviewed several proposals for voluntary, employee paid insurances. Motion Kittleson, Bussey to authorize continued investigation of short term disability, vision and dental insurances on a voluntary basis. Motion Carried. Reports: Transition Committee: Last meeting focused on FLSA. Many highway employees present. Bayfield County will participate in the WCA Wage study. Performance Evaluation System: On-line system being developed. Management training with UW Superior HR Professional was held on April 4th. Wellness: Pete Morrissette created weight loss challenge. Continuing to promote the wellness programs. Staffing: Hired 2 part-time jailers. Interviewed Deputy Sheriff applicants. New part-time clerical help for Sheriff’s Department. Veteran’s Service and Emergency Management each have ½ half time clerk once again. Interviewing ADRC Social Worker applicants. Reviewing Highway Equipment Operator applications. Committee discussed having a discussion with Highway regarding contracting services. Also hiring 4-5 summer highway interns. GIS Technician I in the Land Records Department being advertised. Interns being sought for various departments over the summer months. Dress code may be addressed in the future. Motion Carried. Entered executive session at 5:10pm Motion Meyers, Kittleson to return to open session. Motion Carried. Returned to open session at 5:50pm. Meeting adjourned at 5:50pm.
