1) Gilles called the meeting to order at 1:00.
2) The previous meeting's minutes from July were approved.
3) Library updates:
▪ Bayfield Carnegie Library has a new website. Library had its busiest 2 months
this summer in 100 years. Working on front door replacement and fixing the
front steps.
▪ The Washburn Public Library has replaced the front doors of the library to make
the building more weather-tight. Hanson and one staff are attending the
Northwest Wisconsin Children’s Book Conference in Trego.
▪ Drummond Public Library is working on landscaping around the new building
and has installed a plaque recognizing the fundraising for the facility.
▪ Forest Lodge Library will be “live” on Merlin in November. NWLS to assist in
cataloging efforts. An agreement has been signed with both the townships of
Namakogen and Cable to form a Joint Library Committee. Krause explained this
in detail and said that in November a motion may come before this committee to
send the recommendation to the County Board.
4) Library Brochure:
▪ Hanson showed what has been done so far. She wants to have all of the
information updated and graphics in place for the committee to look at
November’s meeting.
5) Update from NWLS/Stoltenburg:
▪ State contracts for interlibrary loan service have been cut for the entire state.
Libraries will no longer be able to receive items from University of Wisconsin or
Milwaukee Public Libraries and eventually the State Historical Society without
paying a substantial fee per item.
▪ New delivery route has been established for Minitex items to move materials
faster to the northern part of the state.
▪ The NWLS budget request from Bayfield County is remaining at the originally
requested 2% increase over 2003’s request.
6) Other business:
County Administrator Mark Abels-Allison has requested that somebody from the
county Library Board attend the Executive Committee meeting on September 24
at 4:15 for a brief presentation explaining the increase in the request.
Krause is working on setting up a Bayfield County Library column in the County
Journal that will rotate from librarian to librarian.
7) The next meeting is scheduled for November 18, 2003 at 1:00 at the Bayfield County Courthouse. Gilles
will keep committee members updated on the budget. Meeting adjourned at 2:45.
