HomeMy WebLinkAboutLibrary Committee - Minutes - 2/10/2004Minutes of the Bayfield County Library Board Tuesday, February 10, 2004 Board Room, Courthouse, Washburn Present: Margaret Krause, Cable Betty Braunstein, Iron River Lee Gehrke, Drummond Michael Sheehan, Northern Waters Verne Gilles, Co. Bd. We lacked a quorum. We discussed agenda items but no action was taken. Library Updates: - Iron River. Circulation was up 50% from last year. They are making efforts to attract the teen population. Computer classes are being offered by WITC at the library. They are in the process of establishing an on line book club. - Cable. The library is fully automated effective January 1. They are running out of room for books and have some in storage. They are looking at various possibilities of new or expanded space. They are still in the process of creating a joint library agreement between the Towns of Cable and Namakagon. This item should be on the March agenda and Margaret will provide more background information. - Drummond. They have been busy and are becoming crowded. They are targeting the youth beyond the fourth grade. County Library Brochure. Still in process. County Fair Booth Plans. The library representatives favor having a booth at the fair. Internet access is needed. The major obstacle may be finding individuals to work the booth during the fair. Northern Waters Update. Northern Waters is without a director at this time. Michael Sheehan is currently Acting Co-Director. A workshop is planned for updating the library technology plans which is done every five years. These plans try to anticipate what future needs are. Northern Waters is planning to assemble a grant writing team that would look at grant sources and share this information with the individual libraries. 2005 County Library Plan. Lee will work on drafting this plan. The goal is to have a plan that will be easier for users to understand. Michael will share library plans from other counties with Lee. Next Meeting. Tuesday, March 23 at 1:00 p.m. at the Courthouse Boardroom.
