1. Meeting called to order at 1:10.
2. The minutes from June 22, 2004 were approved as corrected. The correction was that
they should have read, "Motion was made by Dick Compton to nominate Ralph
Frostman as vice chair. Seconded by Kittleson. Carried."
3. Bayfield County Fair discussion:
■ Hanson reported that the location of the booth was bad for visibility but that the
people that came through enjoyed hearing about the Internet based catalog
(Merlin) and liked the brochures. Registered a few people up for library cards.
4. Discussion of the budget request:
■ The final copy of the request will be given to each of the County Board members
and Mark Abeles-Allison along with a brochure about the libraries.
■ Discussion on what to add to plan to emphasize the services that the libraries
provide to the residents of Bayfield County.
■ Discussion on use of the word "reimbursement" -vs- "funding"
■ Kittleson stated that the budget needs to be to Abeles-Allison by Friday August
27, 2004.
■ Compton made a motion to send budget request to the county as corrected.
Seconded by Kittleson. Motion was voted on and unanimously passed.
5. Northern Waters Library Service update:
■ New NWLS Director Jim Trojanowski reported that NWLS is requesting the
same level of funding as requested for 2004.
■ Funding is primarily for Mail-A-Book, collection development grants to Bayfield
County Libraries, delivery services and books to jails.
6. Library updates:
■ Drummond's summer programs are winding down.
■ Iron River had great success with their summer programs. Braunstein
encouraged committee members to look at their website at
http://ironriver.wislib.org for more information about their teen web club. Issues
facing Iron River regarding how county funding is placed in the township budget.
Braunstein looking for input on how other communities handle this.
■ Johnston reported that the Red Cliff library is hoping to get a grant to provide
funding for the library next year.
7. The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday October 28, 2004 at the Red Cliff library.
