4. 2014 Building Strong Library Program Update: Washburn and
Cable/Namakagon Projects. Kristine Lendved gave a report for the
Cable/Namakagon Library stating that 4 solar panels have been purchased and are
waiting paperwork to complete.
Darrell Pendergrass reported for the Washburn Library stating that the
windows are to be in hopefully before winter. The windows were purchased through
Olson Building materials. The roofing project was bid out and we are waiting for
RFP’s. He noted that it has been a challenge as the general public doesn’t understand
that we need to do keep the building in good repair, which is something other than
running the library. Discussed the summer reading program which included a large
gumball machine being used. It was a fun program and there were kids in and out all
summer long.
Courtney Dietsche reported for the Iron River Library. The amohnt of time
vs. number of books is down a bit from last year. Anyone can sign up, even if they
are just visiting. They are working slowly on expanding.
Blair Nelson reported on the Bayfield Library, stating he is settling in and
getting to know everyone. The summer reading program ended last week with
approximately 13 children taking part. We have lots of ideas but trying to stay
focused at 1 day at a time.
Kristine Lendved reported that the Cable/Namakagon Library was very busy
and they are looking forward to regular programs.
Suzanne Widmar reported on the Drummond Library . They did an adventure
club and have been busy with visitors. They talked about making it an extension of
the Chamber. They need to help promote this. Kids are using the internet more and
more.
Bill Sloan of Northern Waters asked if there is any consortium working with
the school libraries? He reported that South Shore school opens up but wondering
if there is anything to be gained? They already do work with schools through liasons
and are trying to work together with other schools.
