Call to Order; The meeting of the Bayfield County Library Committee was called to order by Chair Mary Lintula at 4:00 p.m. Those in attendance were: Jeremy Oswald; Jim Crandall; Mary Lintula; Beverly Gaber; Linda Hultman; Laurie St. Aubin-Whelihan; Connie Cogger. A quorum was present to conduct business. Those absent were: Tom Snilsberg. Also present were: Darrell Pendergrass; Blair Nelson; Jacquie Pooler; Anne-Marie Itzin- Northern Waters Library Service; Mark Abeles-Allison- Bayfield County Administrator; Allison Radke- Clerk III. 2. Introduction of Laurie St. Aubin-Whelian, Library Representative for Cable/Namakagon; New Library Representative, Laurie. St Aubin-Whelihan, introduced herself. She represents the Cable/Namakagon library region. She also serves on the Forest Lodge Library Board of Trustees. 3. Public Comment; No public comment was received. 4. Motion regarding the Minutes of the January 17th, 2019 Bayfield County Library Committee Meeting; Motion by Oswald, Cogger to approve the minutes of the January 17th, 2019 Bayfield County Library Bayfield County Library Committee Bayfield County Courthouse 117 East 5th Street, Washburn, WI 54891 County Board Representatives: Tom Snilsberg Jeremy Oswald Jim Crandall Bayfield County Library Representatives: Dick Compton, Bayfield; Mary Lintula, Chair Drummond; Beverly Gaber, Washburn; Laurie St. Aubin- Whelihan, Cable/Namakagon; Linda Hultman, Iron River; Connie Cogger, No. Waters Library Service Bayfield County Librarians: Darrell Pendergrass, Blair Nelson, Jacqueline Pooler, Suzanne Widmar, Kristine Lendved 2 Committee meeting. No edits or corrections were made. Motion carried. 5. Review 2018 and 2019 Building Strong Library (BSL) Project Status; Librarians and library representatives provided more information about the 2018 and 2019 BSL projects. Washburn Public Library updates: Recently finished the ADA Entrance. Unloading ramp – being utilized by the BART Bus, Blue Goose, and other vehicles. Pendergrass thanked the Bayfield County Library Committee, Bayfield County Board, and the Building Strong Libraries Grant. Bayfield Library updates: They have updated and renovated, especially regarding shelving. 6. Discussion and possible action on 2020 BSL Project Submittals and recommendations to the Bayfield County Board; Iron River Library: plans on improving the entrances and doors, so that they will be more accessible. Bayfield Library: is planning on doing a Historic Restoration Project, which involves pillars, blinds, and shelving. Motion by Hultman, Gaber to approve the 2020 BSL Project Submittals and to recommend them to the Bayfield County Board. Motion carried. Bayfield County will assist will $43,194 and local communities will contribute $14,398 to total $57,592. Multiple librarians thanked Bayfield County for their support of local libraries. It was mentioned that the Building Strong Libraries grant program is unique to Wisconsin. It was discussed to add giving Bayfield County more recognition as an agenda item for the next meeting. 7. Library Reports: a. Red Cliff: No representative was present. b. Northern Waters Update: Lac Du Flambeau went live on the Merlin system. c. County Libraries: 1. Drummond Public Library: There have been updates, renovations, and art exhibits. They want to update the signs. They have a new website. 2. Washburn Public Library: A report was given about the collaborative reading program with Bayfield County inmates through Extension. It helps foster connections between parents and children. Information was provided regarding the tuckpointing project. 3. Forest Lodge Library: Cable/Namakagon. They are in the silent fundraising phase for a new library. The Library does not own the current building or property. They purchased property with the intent to expand. 4. Iron River Library: They reported regarding a summer reading program. There was a magician and pizza party on Saturday. A therapy dog came to the library and students 3 would read to the dog. 5. Bayfield Library: Reports were received regarding a movie showing, a winter lecture series, and a film series. The theme will be movies that have been made from books. The Librarian will be co-teaching. County Administrator Mark Abeles-Allison gave more information regarding the 2020 Census. Also gave information about an upcoming conference for librarians. 8. Determine next Library Committee meeting date and time. The next Bayfield County Library Committee meeting will be held on: Thursday, January 23, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. 9. Adjournment.
