HomeMy WebLinkAboutLibrary Committee - Minutes - 8/20/2020 1 D Minutes of the: Bayfield County Library Committee Meeting August 20th, 2020 4:00 p.m. Microsoft Teams Meeting Item 1-3 : Call to Order and Introductions: The meeting of the Bayfield County Library Committee was called to order by Mark Abeles-Allison. Introductions of new members were made. The County Library Ordinance was reviewed. Item 4: Election of Officers Nominations for Committee Chair were received. Karen Jelinek agreed to volunteer as chair, seconded by Oswald. A unanimous ballot was cast for Karen Jelinek as chair. Motion carried. Oswald nominated Jim Crandall as vice chair, seconded by Jelinek. Motion carried. Item 5: Public Comment None Item 6: Minutes: St. Aubin-Whelihan made the motion to approve the January 23, 2020 minutes, seconded by Oswald. Motion carried. Item 7: BSL Deferral Discussion Withdrawn Bayfield County Library Committee Bayfield County Courthouse 117 East 5th Street, Washburn, WI 54891 County Board Representatives: Charly Ray Jeremy Oswald Jim Crandall Bayfield County Library Representatives: Mary Lynch, Bayfield; Karen Jelinek, Chair Drummond; Diane Posner, Washburn; Laurie St. Aubin- Whelian, Cable/Namakagon; Cassie Fleming, Iron River; Connie Cogger, N. Waters Library Service Bayfield County Librarians: Darrell Pendergrass, Blair Nelson, Jacqueline Pooler, Suzanne Widmar, Kristine Lendved, Jared Blanche 2 Item 8: 2020 BSL Projects: The Bayfield Library reviewed the status of their Pillar, Blink and Shelving projects. All but the pillar project is completed. An agreement for the pillar project was signed this past week. Work will be done in 2020. The Iron River Library installed electric self-opening doors. Final cost was $1400 more than anticipated. A local donor assisted with the difference. Item 9: 2021 BSL Projects: Four libraries had projects for 2021: • Washburn: Building restoration • Iron River: Hearing loops and AED unit • Bayfield: Tile, copy cabinet, newspaper rack • Drummond: Furnace Oswald made the motion to fully fund the Iron River ($4,166), Bayfield ($3375) and Drummond ($5,400) requests and allocate the remaining funds, approximately $43,966, to the Washburn building restoration project, seconded by Crandall. Motion carried. Item 10: Library Updates • Kristine Lendved reported that the 95th anniversary celebration of the Cable Library has been put off a year. Cable has limited office hours. Continuing planning for expansion, working with a fund raiser on the project. • Blair Nelson reported that work is progressing on tuck pointing and pillar work. Bayfield has a virtual poetry reading. • Jackie Pooler reported on the summer reading program held virtually. • Darrel Pendergrass noted that Washburn was not open to the public yet but street pickup and drop offs were available. Snag reading programs continue • Karen reported that Drummond was coordinating a return to school study program using library computers. • Jared Blanche noted that Red Cliff has two staff members. The library was closed for 45 days but is now preparing to open again. • Sherrie with Northern Waters noted that funding is a concern as county revenues have declined. Meeting adjourned at 5:05pm.
