Helen EF Case Study Linder discussed how the new law affects the way in which individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia in need of protective services must be served. Discussion followed. It will now be more difficult to identify nursing home placements for individuals with significant behavioral issues. Linder is meeting with Judge Anderson and Corporation Counsel in the near future to review the new law, its implications and how to handle cases in the future. ADRC Updates A. The cap on Family Care and IRIS was implemented on July 1. ADRCs will have the ability to serve individuals based only on attrition slots and through temporary funding when clients can meet the established urgent needs criteria. Bayfield County has no one on the waiting list at this time. Two attrition slots became available in the month of July. The cap is scheduled to sunset on June 30, 2013. Informational Items A. Transportation brokerage update Linder provided an update regarding the new MA Transportation Broker, LogistiCare. Bayfield County has not received many complaints or calls regarding the transition. Announcements were issued locally to Medicaid recipients and volunteer drivers two times prior to the transition. Additionally, we worked with clients on various programs to ensure they understood the change. 2 B. Staffing updates Emily Bainbridge, the new Aging Services Specialist, is doing a great job. She has taken over the Nutrition Program, Aging Transportation and has a small caseload at this time. She will begin training on ADRC services in the near future. Social Worker Jan Bergst will be retiring Oct. 17, 2011. Interviews for her replacement are scheduled for August 8, 2011. The anticipated start date for the new position is September 6, 2011. C. Nutrition Update A question was raised regarding the elimination of the Nutrition Advisory Council meetings. Carrie reported that during the 2010 Nutrition Program assessment, the duplication of time and effort to hold these meetings was discussed with Pam VanKampen. She advised us to include a regular line item agenda for Nutrition Program updates during the Aging and Disability Services Committee to meet state requirements, rather than hold a separate meeting. This agenda item will be included on all future agendas. Linder reviewed the new dietary guidelines from the USDA called “My Plate”. “My Plate” replaced previous food pyramid guide lines. In the new format, a plate is used to divide food portions into four categories: fruit, vegetable, grain and protein with a side of dairy. Review Future Meeting Date(s) for 2011 Future meeting dates: September 26, 2011; November 28, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. Adjournment Motion made by Sederholm to adjourn at 3:45 p.m. Respectfully submitted by Karen Vlasaty, Clerk III 7/26/11
