Call to Order and Introductions
Carver called the meeting to order at 3:03 p.m. No introductions required.
Review of the July 20, 2015 Minutes
Motion by Jardine to approve the minutes, second by Compton, Motion carried.

Dementia Friendly Community Training
The State has developed a “Dementia Care System Redesign Plan” to aid with various dementia-
friendly initiatives. Several educational opportunities have been made available, including a 20-
minute course. The course covered the definition of dementia, Wisconsin facts and figures, shared
the perspective from a person diagnosed with dementia and her point of view as a person living with
the condition, interacting with people living with dementia, and features of a dementia-friendly
community.
Three out of five (Drummond, Washburn and Bayfield) libraries have applied for grants to become
dementia friendly libraries. A caregiver library has been developed and includes books are available
about dementia. Linder indicated that she will put together a proclamation on dementia to present to
the DHS Board.
Aging Plan Updates
“State of Aging in Bayfield County” sessions have been held throughout the county to provide an
overview of the county’s status as it relates to demographics of an aging population and to seek
feedback on what our communities want most from their Aging and Disability Resource Center. Data
has been collected from about 150 consumers. Areas of concern included transportation, education
and outreach.
The public hearing was tentatively scheduled for November 9, as the 2016-2018 plan is due
November 16.
Nutrition Program Updates
A. New Van – Lorraine Benson, driver for the Southwestern Bayfield County route has been
provided with a new van. Her van has been directed to Clare Hintz, Northern Bayfield County

route driver. The CNG (compressed natural gas) vehicle has been removed from the DHS
fleet.
B. Shortage of Substitute Drivers – Experiencing shortage of sub drivers. Interviews with two
drivers recently took place.
ADRC Updates
The WI DHS has made a number of required changes to the 2016 ADRC contract. Skulan provided
some information relative to the changes.
Advocacy Updates
A. Family Care/IRIS 2.0 - The Department of Health Services is holding public hearings.
Questions and talking points information was distributed. You can e-mail the testimony, an e-
mail address has been provided.
Other (Informational Items)
A. Caregiver Conference - 14th Annual Caregivers Conference is scheduled for Friday, October 2,
2015 from 8:30-3:45 p.m. at the AmericInn, Ashland.
B. Two articles relating to the aging population in Northeastern Minnesota (similar concerns to
what Bayfield County is facing) were provided from the Duluth News Tribune.
C. Memory Screens/National Memory Screening Week –scheduled during the week of November
2. Schedule for screenings has been set up for November 4th at various sites: Red Cliff,
Bayfield, Washburn, Cable, Barnes and the Ashland Senior Center and Essentia Health Clinic.
A session is also scheduled for Iron River on November 12th in conjunction with the monthly
congregate meal.
D. 2016 Budget Review – The 2016 Budget has gone to the County Executive Committee. DHS
has submitted a 0% increase for 2016 as directed. Brief question and answer session.
