AGING AND DISABILITY SERVICES ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Call to Order and Introductions
Carver called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. No introductions needed.
Review of the November 9, 2015 Minutes
Motion by Crandall to approve the minutes, second by Schell. Motion carried.
Review & Approve – 2015 Aging Unit Self-Assessment
Linder reviewed the information she compiled for the 2015 Aging Unit Self-Assessment. One area
that needed attention was committee membership. Vegetarian options are now offered in Barnes; no
one has ordered at this time but will continue to offer this option and do additional outreach. The next
step will be to offer the vegetarian option to the home delivered meal participants. CORE offers a
cooking class, “Let’s Do Lunch.” Questions presented and answered. This is an annual required
report, which needs approval by the committee and is submitted to GWAAR for review and approval.
If GWAAR staff has any questions or concerns, they will follow up with Carrie Linder.
Motion by Crandall to approve the 2015 Aging Unit Self-Assessment, second by Carver. Motion
carried.
2016 Work Plan
Linder reviewed the elements pertaining to the goals. This is presented as a status update on
activities at present time. A brief discussion followed on the goals. Under 6-F, Local Priorities, Goal
#3, transportation has continued to be a common concern and was noted in most all of the survey
questions asked when developing the plan. A transportation survey was conducted in 2007. In
collaboration with the Veterans Services, this survey will be updated and sent out to determine
transportation needs for Veterans.
Consideration for Recommendaton to the ADAC-Citizen Application from Kathryn Grafsgaard
Carrie noted that Sue Sederholm’s term ended last May. Anita Haukaas had received an application
from Kathryn Grafsgaard for the Family Services Committee. She forwarded the information to Carrie
for consideration for the ADAC. Carrie provided a brief overview of Ms. Grafsgaard’s application.
Brief discussion followed; application will be directed to the Human Services Board on Thursday,
March 24, 2016 for approval.
Motion by Jardine on the recommendation of the Citizen Application to the ADAC for Kathryn
Grafsgaard, second by Oie. Motion carried.

Nutrition Program Updates
A. Vegetarian meal options added at the Barnes meal site. Next step will be to offer to the home
delivered meal participants.
B. ENP participant survey process will begin no sooner than 4/1/16. The State has developed a
survey that will be distributed to all participants. Participants will be able to fill it out
electronically or via hard copy. Additional options for sending back via postal mail will be made
to ensure all survey responses will be made confidential.
ADRC Updates
A. Dementia training grant initiatives were sent out by the State. ADRC-N applied and received
funding. Training for front line first point of contact people working with those with dementia
will be offered in May. This will include law enforcement personnel, EMS personnel, Mental
Health staff, Adult Protective Services staff, nursing home personnel and assisted living
personnel. Training is planned for May 18th and May 25th. Two times will be offered in order to
incorporate all shifts. Times are from 1:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-9:00 p.m.
B. Partnership with UWEX – Collaboration with Liz Lexau from UWEX on a Caregiver Newsletter
and sharing items on the Extension Facebook page.
Advocacy Updates
Linder reviewed the Executive Summary of the Family Care/Iris 2.0 Concept Paper. Also attached
were 2 pages of the coalition response, “Keep Our Care at Home.” Review and brief discussion;
suggestion was to create a Resolution and present to the Human Services Board for further approval
and action.
Other (Informational Items)
A. Staffing Updates – Jack Holevatz, A&D Benefits Specialist has tended his resignation as of
July 1, 2016. He will be pursuing further education. The new Social Worker Aid position has
been approved and plans are to begin by July 1, 2016. Both positions will be posted at the
same time to ensure the appropriate person is hired for the appropriate position.
HDM driver, Clare Hintz, Northern Route has tended her resignation and her last day was
March 11, 2016. Erin Clark began employment on March 7, 2016 and had a week of cross
training with Clare.
B. Iron River Health Fair – Wednesday, April 27, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Iron
River Community Center. Development and organization of this first ever fair has been a joint
collaboration with the ADRC and the Iron River Lions. Present will be over 20 vendors, several
education presentations and multiple screenings will be offered.
Two Workshops - Living Well with Chronic Conditions (9:30-12:00) and Healthy Living with
Diabetes (2:00-4:30) scheduled for May 16 – June 27, 2016 at the Barnes Community Church.
