HomeMy WebLinkAboutAging & Disability Advisory Committee - Minutes - 9/19/2016 1 BAYFIELD COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES AGING AND DISABILITY SERVICES ADVISORY COMMITTEE Courthouse Conference Room A September 19, 2016 3:00 p.m. Committee Members Present: Richard Compton, Kathryn Grafsgaard, Kenneth Jardine, Martha Oie, Betty Schell, Crystal Newago Committee Members Excused: Patricia Carver, Jeremy Oswald Committee Member Absent: None Staff Present: Carrie Linder, Jane Cook Call to Order and Introductions Compton called the meeting to order at 3:05 p.m. No introductions at this time. Review of the July 18, 2016 Minutes Motion by Jardine to approve the minutes, second by Grafsgaard. Motion carried. Newago arrived at 3:07 p.m. Introductions were made. 2016 Budget Review Linder reviewed the 2016 Budget information provided in the packet to members. Questions and answers followed. Fall Prevention Month Linder distributed information related to various fall prevention topics. Included was information on a Stepping-On Workshop to be held on Wednesdays from September 21 through November 2, 2016 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Northern Lights Services-Dining Room, 706 Bratley Drive, Washburn, WI. Nutrition Program Updates A. Review number of meals served for third quarter - This item was tabled as the data for September was not available. B. Staff Training – Regional training will be held in Hayward. Nutrition staff is required to have a minimum of six hours of training. Linder indicated that in addition to the annual training, she has implemented quarterly meetings with nutrition staff to assist in meeting this requirement. C. Site Reviews – Linder reviewed a Dining Experience Form for committee members to use for assessing congregate meal sites. Each committee member as asked to pick a site, visit it and obtain feedback to facilitate increased customer experience. Schell noted that there were grammatical errors on the form. Linder noted this and will update form and send out to committee members. Locations for Senior Dining sites were also distributed and Linder asked committee members to identify a site they would be willing to visit. Linder provided an update for the Time-Out congregate meal site. Sufficient funding was included in the 2017 budget to address the current number of meals that are being served at the Time Out and other congregate elderly nutrition sites. Staff oversight at the Time Out was identified as a requirement in the 2016 ENP assessment conducted by GWAAR staff; this has been implemented effective 9/1/16. DHS will continue to analyze the number of meals served on an ongoing basis. Should the number of meals increase significantly, options on regulating the number of meals served that have been discussed previously will be revisited. 2 ADRC Updates Linder distributed information on ADRC’s and how they work to help give people good sound information for good sound choices. The ADRC’s provide a single entry point to aging and disability information and services to help Wisconsin citizens find the best way to meet their individual needs. Advocacy Updates Voter Photo ID information was distributed. As a result of a final ruling to implement Wisconsin Act 23, all Wisconsin voters need to provide a valid photo ID in order to receive an election ballot. Linder distributed an Advocacy Brief that provided various updates. Information presented also included an article related to the new Medicare law to notify patients of the loophole in nursing home coverage. A new Medicare law went into effect in August that requires hospitals to notify patients that they may incur out-of-pocket costs if they stay more than 24 hours before being formally admitted. Other (Informational Items) A. Staffing Updates – Karen Bodin was hired on August 22, 2016 as the new Social Worker Aide. B. Hoarding Workshop scheduled for Tuesday, October 18, 2016 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at WITC-Ashland. Registration is required for the workshop through WITC. C. Memory Screening Day – scheduled for Tuesday, November 15, 2016. Certified trainers will host screenings in several locations throughout Bayfield County; exact locations are yet to be confirmed.
