AGING AND DISABILITY SERVICES ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Call to Order and Introductions
Carver called the meeting to order at 4:04 p.m. and introductions were made.
Review of the May 15, 2017 Minutes
Correction to funding under the Overview of Future Plans for the Historic Civic Center presented by
Mary Nowakowski. Motion by Carver to approve the minutes with the corrections, second by Oie.
Motion carried.
Review Citizen Applications
Kenneth Jardine has tended his resignation. Citizen application from Karen Anderson was presented
for consideration. Motion by Oswald to recommend Karen Anderson’s application to the Human
Services Board, second by Compton. Motion carried.
Martha Oie and Richard Compton’s terms expire as of this July meeting. Carrie noted that she is
looking for a representative for the Cable\Drummond\Grand View area. NCIL representative Doug
Defoe may be interested in serving as a representative.
Nutrition Program Updates
A. Port Wing Meal Site – Linder reviewed history on the ongoing interest to change the site from
the South Shore School to the Bear Paw Restaurant. This interest is being generated by the
Port Wing seniors. Informational meeting was held on Friday, May 19, 2017 at the Port Wing
Fire Hall to discuss the potential for relocation. The request was for one day per week. Bear
Paw is interested in further dialogue. Linder noted that a 60-day notice to change from one
facility to another is required. A grant was submitted about 2 weeks ago. Grant was written
based on increased usage of local foods increased utilization of the site and use of the local
restaurant. Linder noted that she will be submitting a $10,000 budget increase for the
congregate meal program in Port Wing. Additional plans include adding the vegetarian option
to a large portion of the HDM program participants. Vegetarian options are currently offered at
the Barnes Meal Site. Brief question and answer.
B. Barnes Nutrition Site Survey – Survey distributed to participants at the Barnes Meal Site from the
time period of May, 2016 through May 2017. Process on reserving a meal is still a concern.
Some site manager concerns but customer satisfaction was good. Received positive as well as
negative feedback. Linder noted that results are being tabulated and will be presented at a
listening session to be held at the Barnes site.

ADRC Updates
A. 2018 Proposed Contract Changes - Linder briefly discussed the 2018 proposed contract
changes; mostly minor. More clarification is needed in some areas. Some language pertains
to the integration between the ADRC and Aging units, which is not a concern for Bayfield
County.
Advocacy Updates
A. Potential Impact on Medicaid Changes - Linder distributed an AARP letter on the potential
impact on Medicaid changes. Not a good scenario for anyone.
Other (Informational Items)
A. Living Well Newsletter – Linder briefly focused on pg. 7 Spousal Impoverishment Protection in
Long-Term Care. Additional copies provided to Oie, Oswald and Hanson.
B. Annual Report – Linder briefly reviewed the Aging and Disability portion of the report.
Grafsgaard asked about the transportation survey that was planned to determine what our
operations look like and our future needs. Linder briefly reviewed some of the ideas that she is
pursuing to accomplish this goal.
