AGING AND DISABILITY SERVICES ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING NOTES

Call to Order and Introductions
Introductions made prior to the meeting. Linder called the meeting to order at 4:03 p.m.

Nutrition Program Updates
A. Review number of meals served in 1st Quarter of 2018. Linder reviewed meal information.
B. Nutrition Advisory Council-Review NAC Handbook. Linder distributed a copy of the Nutrition
Advisory Council Handbook for members to review. Linder noted that she has not received notice
from GWAAR or WIDHS regarding incorporating the NAC committee into the ADAC committee.
Linder reviewed mission statements as noted on page 4 and page 7 and noted the three target
areas including those with the greatest economic or social need, particularly low-income and
minority persons, older individuals with limited English proficiency, and older persons residing in
rural areas. Reviewed nutrition history as found on page 6. Reviewed page 10 council roles and
responsibilities. Reviewed page 17 and 19. Linder asked members to review advocacy and
general training and provide input to her on what they would like more information on, what they
would like training on, and what’s important for future needs. Linder noted that she feels housing,
transportation and workforce development are key needs.
Gordon recommended to complete a review of the by-laws at the next meeting and become
compliant with the Nutrition Advisory Council Handbook rules and regulations. Recommendation
carried.
ADRC Updates
A. Disability Benefit Specialist Program Update – Linder presented a brief history of the DBS
program. Currently there are 2 DBS positions – one in Bayfield County and one in Sawyer
County. The DBS in Bayfield County covers Ashland, Bayfield and Iron County. The DBS in

Sawyer County covers Sawyer and Price county. Jamie Mackin, DBS for Bayfield County,
recently brought forth concerns with his current caseload, as it is over 70. Linder noted she
brought the matter to Barb Peterson, ADRC-N Regional Director to discuss options for managing
the large caseload. One option presented was to change the area of coverage between the two
DBS positions. Linder referred to a map area and mileage information provided. Waiting for final
decision as to how to proceed.
B. ADRC of the North 2018 Program Goals – Linder reviewed staff input.
C. ADRC Month Proclamation – Linder noted that Governor Walker has issued a proclamation
recognizing May as the Aging and Disability Resource Center Month.
Advocacy Updates
A. Status of AB-629 and AB-632 – Linder sent an e-mail to Representative Meyers and Senator
Bewley thanking them for their support of AB-629 (Uniform Adult Guardianship Jurisdiction) and
AB-632 (Alzheimer’s & Dementia Awareness Grant). Both bills passed.
B. SeniorCare Public Hearing Announcement – The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS)
is requesting a 10-year waiver extension request for the SeniorCare Prescription Drug Assistance
Program. Hearings to be held on May 10th in Milwaukee and May 14th in Madison to seek input on
the renewal application. Linder noted that there is a 30-day public comment period and public
comments will be accepted May 7 through June 7, 2018. Linder recommended sending a
comment to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.
Other (Informational Items)
A. Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program-Update – Linder reviewed Senior Farmers Market
Nutrition Program (SFMNP) vouchers distribution for low income seniors beginning in June 2018.
Six voucher distribution sites have been scheduled. The goal of this program is to help seniors
improve their diets with fresh produce while giving local farmers more business and adding
support to the local economy. To be eligible for the program in Bayfield County you must be a
Bayfield County resident, 60 or older (55 or older for Native American) and at or below 185% of
the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). Income is self-declared, you do not need to show verification of
income. One set of vouchers, worth $25, is available per household.
B. May 18 – National Older Adult Mental Health Awareness Day – May 18, 2018 has been
designated as National Older Adult Mental Health Awareness Day. Older adults living in isolation
are a concern.
C. Coordinated Public Transit-Human Services Transportation Plan Meeting – Linder reviewed
upcoming meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May 30, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the
Bay Area Rural Transit Facility at 2216 6th Street E, Ashland. Attendees will assess the tri-
counties transit/transportation needs and gaps and assist in developing goals and activities
related to identified needs and gaps.
Other – Linder polled members present about changing the meeting time to 3:00 p.m. All in
agreement. Beginning July 16, 2018 time change to 3:00 p.m.

Next meeting: July 16, 2018, September 17, 2018 and December 3, 2018.
