HomeMy WebLinkAboutAging & Disability Advisory Committee - Minutes - 7/16/2018 1 BAYFIELD COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES AGING AND DISABILITY SERVICES ADVISORY COMMITTEE Courthouse Conference Room A July 16, 2018 3:00 p.m. Committee Members Present: Lynette Benzschawel, Doug Defoe, Alan Filipczak, Tom Gordon, Kathryn Grafsgaard, Suzanne Rooney, Betty Schell Committee Members Excused: None Committee Member Absent: Karen Anderson Staff Present: Carrie Linder, Elizabeth Skulan, Jane Cook Call to Order and Introductions Linder called the meeting to order at 3:05 p.m. and introductions were made. Election of Chairman Motion by Defoe to nominate Tom Gordon, second by Schell. No other nominations. Motion carried. Election of Vice Chairman Nomination of Doug Defoe for Vice Chairman. No other nominations. Motion by Grafsgaard to nominate Doug Defoe, second by Schell. Motion carried. Discussion and Possible Action-Review of the March 19, 2018 Meeting Minutes Motion by Gordon to approve the March 19, 2018 Minutes, second by Schell. Motion carried. Discussion and Possible Action-Review of the May 14, 2018 Meeting Notes Motion by Gordon to approve the May 14, 2018 Notes, second by Rooney. Motion carried. Discussion and Possible Action-New ADAC Committee Member-Lynette Benzschawel Motion by Schell to approve appointment of Lynette Benzschawel to the ADAC Committee, second by Grafsgaard. Motion carried. Nomination has been approved by the DHS Board. Nutrition Program Updates A. Nutrition Program Advisory Council-Review response from GWAAR. Per May 14, 2018 email response from Pam Van Kampen, GWAAR, there needs to be 2 separate committees. Nutrition Advisory Council (NAC) will meet as often as necessary but no less than quarterly. Next meeting scheduled on September 17, 2018 will be a dual meeting with the NAC meeting first at 2:00 p.m. and the ADAC meeting at 3:00 p.m. NAC meeting postponed until December 3, 2018. B. Review number of meals served in 2nd Quarter 2018 Red Cliff meal total for 2018 is slightly lower than to be expected, as June meal numbers have not been received. The total number of HDM meals paid for by Family Care has dropped by 3%. ADRC Updates A. Nursing Home Level of Care Process Change The state has send out letters to residents indicating that if they are not meeting the skilled level of care they will be relocated to another setting. It is a state sponsored process change and individuals are being encouraged to seek options from ADRCs. 2 B. Dementia Care Programming-Music and Memory and Powerful Tools for Caregivers Linder noted WIDHS has required ADRCs to adopt and implement two (2) evidence based programs for implementation in 2018 Dementia Care Program. One is to be targeted for the caregiver and one for the care recipient. Powerful Tools for Caregivers and Music & Memory are the two programs that have been selected for implementation in the ADRC of the North. Linder briefly discussed information relative to the programs. Other (Informational Items) A. 55+ Health Expo has been set for August 22, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Bretting’s Community Center. Expo will focus on assorted topics including health, wellness, scams, technology, etc. B. Sip and Swipe Program – Informational resource sheet in packet. Overarching goal of the program is to help older adults become more comfortable using tablets. Future Meeting Dates 2018 Next meeting: September 17, 2018 (Nutrition Council meeting begins at 2:00 p.m., ADAC meeting begins at 3:00 p.m.) NAC Meeting postponed until December 3, 2018.
