1. Call To Order of Forestry and Parks Committee Meeting.
The meeting of the Forestry and Parks Committee was called to order by S. Miller at 5:30 P.M.
2. Approval of January 21, 2013 Meeting Minutes.
MOTION: (Jardine, Bichanich) to receive and place on file the January 21, 2012 meeting minutes. Carried.
3. Public Comment.
S. Miller called for public comments. No comments were received.
4. Recreational Use Request: CAMBA
A request to use trails located in the Town of Cable for the annual CAMBA Festival of Trails mountain bike
event was considered.
MOTION: (Bichanich, Bennett) to approve the request to utilize trails in the Town of Cable on May 31,
2013 through June 2, 2013 for the CAMBA Festival of Trails mountain bike event. Carried.
5. Recreational Use Request: Red Cliff Early Childhood Center.
A request to use property located in the Town of Bayfield for the annual Early Childhood Center’s Family
Sledding Event was considered.
MOTION: (Bennett, Bichanich) to approve the request for a recreational use permit from the Red Cliff
Early Childhood Center to utilize property located in the Town of Bayfield for a family sledding event on
February 22, 2013. Carried.
6. Recreational Use Request: North End Ski Club.
A request to use trails located in the Town of Cable for a biathlon event on March 3, 2013 has been
received.
MOTION: (Bennett, Bichanich) to approve the request for a recreational use permit from CANSKI for a
biathlon event on March 3, 2013 in the Town of Cable. Carried.

7. Access Management.
Bodine presented an overview of draft trail and area designations. The presentation was informal and

intended to display the permitted motorized uses on inventoried trails or areas within the forest. Bodine
asked for approval to move forward as presented. No motion was taken, but the Committee felt the draft
trail and area designations looked good and directed Bodine to move forward as presented. Bodine intended
to bring updates to Chapter 700 to the meeting in March.
8. Forestry and Parks/Tourism Department Re-Organization.
Bodine presented a plan, also co-authored by the County Administrator and Tourism Director, summarizing
the potential move of trails management from the Tourism Department to Forestry and Parks. The plan
outlined the potential impacts of the move, including the need for a new full time recreational forester
position in the Forestry and Parks Department.
MOTION: (Maki, Bichanich) to move the Trails program from the Tourism Department to the Forestry and
Parks Department and to hire a recreation forester. 4-Yes; 1-No. Carried.

The next Forestry and Parks Committee meeting will be held Monday, March 18, 2013 at 5:30 P.M., Bayfield
County Courthouse, Washburn, WI.
