HomeMy WebLinkAboutAquatic Invasive Species Committee - Minutes - 5/11/2016 Bayfield County Aquatic Invasive Species Committee MINUTES May 11, 2016 (to be approved) Present: Nan Olson, Jim Krueger, Jeremy Oswald, Mike Defoe, Sally Pease, Sarah Boles Staff: Andrew Teal, AIS Coordinator Absent: William Bussey Attendance: Adam Haecker, NCWMA Coordinator; Arianna Austin, LWCD Clerk 1. Call to Order: Nan Olson called the meeting to order at 9:02 AM. 2. Introductions: NCWMA Coordinator, County Supervisor, LWCD Clerk 3. Public Comment: None 4. Motion: Approve minutes from Nov. 18, 2015 AIS Committee meeting. Defoe / Krueger – carried. 5. Grant Updates: AIS coordinator grant received through December 2018. Delta Lakes Association made watercraft inspection donation to be used as match. Karen Austin will coordinate inspections. Updated rules for match were discussed. CBCW-Lake Superior grant for this summer, with two interns rotating through landings in the region. CBCW training on June 3, 8-11 AM at Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute, Northland College. Prior training in Cable on April 26. Potential training in Drummond or Barnes. 6. Discussion/Possible Action: Approval of Revised AIS Strategic Management Plan and Resolution Andy provided hard-copies of the original AIS Strategic Management Plan for review. Appendix E needs updating due to findings. Andy has made additional updates. Committee members provided verbal updates to Appendix E and should send suggestions to Andy. Andy will add most recent version to Dropbox. Updated plan must be completed by December 2016. Updated plan should occur every three years, which would readily coincide with AEPP grant renewal. 7. AIS Coordinator Report: Andy shared some of the recent activities he has participated in—reviewed and on-file. Andy will add Roundtable notes to Dropbox for Jeremy’s review. The committee wishes to recognize Tim Kane for his valuable work at the roundtable. GLEDN app was discussed. 8. Partner/Department Reports: NCWMA - Adam reviewed DNR award letter for Garlic Mustard control, plans to review federal grant with Matt Bushman. Todd Norwood, Andy and Adam visited several Garlic Mustard and knotweed sites in Bayfield. 9. Future AIS Activities: Andy shared some of the upcoming activities—reviewed and on-file. Sarah offered to speak on terrestrial invasive species, toward the end of summer. Sally noted the upcoming LEEP field trip, volunteers are still needed. 10. Other business: Jeremy requested changing the meeting times to either 8 AM or 5 PM. Summer meetings were agreed to begin at 8 AM, winter meetings were suggested for late afternoon. 2017 meetings will be scheduled at the next meeting. 11. Next meeting date: Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 8:00 AM 12. Adjournment: Meeting adjourned at 10:37 AM
