Minutes of the
TOURISM & RECREATION COMMITTEE OF THE BAYFIELD COUNTY BOARD
Wednesday, February 13, 2013, 3:00 p.m.
County Board Room, Bayfield County Courthouse, Washburn, WI
Members Present: Brett Rondeau, Bucky Jardine, Rusty Williams, John Bennett, Neil Schultz (via phone)
Members Absent: none
Others Present: Mary Motiff, Mark Abeles-Allison, Jason Bodine
I. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 3:10 p.m. by Rondeau.
II. Motion Regarding January 24, 2013 Meeting Minutes: Motion (Jardine, Bennett) to approve the minutes from
the January 24, 2013 committee meeting. Motion Carried.
III. Public Comment: None.
IV. Discussion and Possible Action on an Amendment to Bayfield County’s Outdoor Recreation Plan(LCORP):
CAMBA is requesting an amendment to the LCORP for mountain bike trails. Motion (Jardine, Bennett) to amend the
Bayfield County Outdoor Recreation Plan to include CAMBA’s request providing the towns involved are notified and
the length of the easements meet grant requirements. Motion Carried.
V. Discussion and Possible Action on Tourism Department Reorganization: The purpose of reorganization is to
allow the director to focus more time on marketing. The proposal to accomplish this goal:
Moving trail responsibility to the Forestry Department
Increasing the Fair Secretary position from 50% to 80%
Decrease Tourism Secretary position from 100% to 50% in Tourism and 50% in another department
This would add a full-time forester with a background in trails & parks to the Forestry Department. Tourism Director
involvement in the Fair was also discussed. Motion (Jardine, Rondeau) to move trails to the Forestry Department
according to the proposal. Discussion followed. Roll Call Vote: Williams-no, Bennett-no, Jardine-yes, Rondeau-yes,
Schultz-yes. Motion Carried 3-2. The next step will be to send the reorganization proposal to the Fair Committee.
VI. Discussion and Possible Action on Tourism Department’s Mission & Goals: Motion (Schultz, Jardine) to table
this item. Motion Carried 4-1.
VII. Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 3:58 pm.
