BAYFIELD COUNTY FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING
Tuesday, January 13, 2015 – 5:30 p.m.
EOC Room, Bayfield County Courthouse Annex
Minutes
1. Call To Order
The Chair, Dee Kittleson, called the meeting to order at 5:30 pm.
Committee members present: Marco Bichanich, Dee Kittleson, Shawn Miller and Rusty
Williams
Committee members absent: Jim Crandall,
Others present: Mary Motiff, Director and Theresa Kummerow, Administrative Assistant.
2. Approval of Minutes from December 1, 2014 Fair Committee Meeting
Motion (Bichanich, Williams) To approve the December 1, 2014 minutes as presented.
Motion Carried.
3. Public Comment
No public comment.
4. 2014 YTD Budget Review
A copy of the 2014 YTD Budget was included in the Committee members’ packets. Not all
expenses or revenues have been entered into the New World accounting program.
5. Wisconsin Association of Fairs Updates
Kittleson, Motiff and Kummerow attended the WI Association of Fairs Convention. Included in the
Committee members’ packets was a short summary from Kummerow on the workshops and
other events that she attended. Kittleson, Motiff and Kummerow spoke with a wide variety of
possible entertainment representatives during their stay.
6. Discussion and Possible Action on 2015 Fair Planning
Included in the Committee members’ packets was an updated Entertainment budget. One option
that was presented for the Saturday night Grandstand show was the Division Stunt Team
(www.divisionbmx.net) which includes motorcycle and ATVs doing tricks and flips. A one page
pictorial sheet showed two options that could be procured. Kummerow gave a list of possible
musical groups that may be available and in our price range including Jimmy VanZant. Miller
stated that if Van Zant was procured he would come up with an additional $2,500 to help defray
the costs. Costs and other considerations were discussed. Kummerow will gather more
information on options and will present them at the next Fair Committee meeting.
UW-Extension Ag Agent involvement at the Fair was discussed, as well as other UW-Extension
Educators’ involvement. This topic will be placed on next month’s agenda for discussion.
Kummerow will let the Extension office know about this agenda item.
7. Discussion and Possible Action on Fair Vendor Fees
The updated food vendor contract was included in the Committee members’ packets. Discussion
on raising the food vendor fees and other possible charges for very early arrivals.
Motion (Bichanich, Williams) To approve the raising of the food vendor fees to $525 for
under the Grandstand and to $500 for all other spaces, regardless of electrical type
needed. Motion Carried.

8. Buildings and Grounds Update
A. FEMA Building- The bid notice has been posted. January 20, 2015 is the walk-through
with bids due to C&S Design on January 29th.
B. Head Groundskeeper position – Motiff and the Administrator will be working on
updating the job description for the position with plans to post the job in early February.
Discussion. The Committee would like to see practical job skills to be considered above
educational qualifications. Bichanich expressed interest in being a part of the interviews.
C. Show Ring – Motiff has been in contact with the builder (Lipka Construction). The plans
are scheduled for the State approval process in January.
9. Discussion and Possible Action on Milk Bulk Tank
Bichanich led the discussion on a request to purchase the milk bulk tank at the Fair Grounds.
Consensus of the Committee is that the milk bulk tank will not be sold at this time.
10. Future Agenda Items and Next Meeting Date
Future Agenda Items - Saturday entertainment, Extension Educators involvement at the Fair,
FEMA Building update and Head Groundskeeper position
Next Meeting Date – The next Fair Committee meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 17,
2015 at 6:00 pm at the Courthouse.
