Minutes of the
TOURISM & RECREATION COMMITTEE OF THE BAYFIELD COUNTY BOARD
Tuesday, March 22, 2:00 p.m.
County Board Room, Bayfield County Courthouse, Washburn, WI
Members Present: Bucky Jardine, Brett Rondeau, John Bennett, Rusty Williams & Shawn Miller via telephone
Members Absent: none
Others Present: Mary Motiff, Sue Trepanier, Drew Nussbaum, Mark Abeles-Allison, Tom Krob, David Eades,& Jeff Silbert
I. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 2:00 p.m. by Jardine.
Jardine suggested moving item #4 up due to Nussbaum’s time constraints. Motion (Rondeau, Bennett) to move
item #4 up. Motion Carried.
IV. Report from the Wisconsin Department of Tourism – Drew Nussbaum: Nussbaum shared a report showing
what the Department of Tourism has been doing for Bayfield County (included in committee packet). Discussion
occurred regarding the relationship of the Tourism Department with the state Department of Tourism. Nussbaum
reported communication has been good lately & hopes it will continue to improve. Tom Krob and David Eades
commented in support of the work done by the Bayfield County Tourism Department.
II. Public Comment: None
III. Motion Regarding August 18, 2015 Meeting Minutes: Motion (Rondeau, Bennett) to approve the minutes
from the August 18, 2015 committee meeting. Motion Carried.
V. Report from Director:
Advertising:
o The winter tourism video reached over 16,000 people with only $190 in facebook
advertising.
o The new WI Tourism Guide was shared showing the Bayfield County ad.
Sales Tax:
o 2016 is the 2nd highest March ever and the highest since 2008. Most all-time high and
second highest months have been since 2013.
Social Media:
o Posting on Facebook with a goal of 3 posts/week. Also using Twitter.
Story Maps:
o Presented story maps project; working with Land Records on this project.
Goals & Objectives:
o Reviewed department goals & objectives with updated activities.
ATV Routes & Trails
o Working on possible solutions to address trail #63 closure.

VI. Discussion & Possible Action on the 2016 Marketing Plan: With no quorum for the October, 2015 committee
meeting, the marketing plan had not been previously approved. Motion (Rondeau, Williams) to approve the 2016
Marketing Plan. Motion Carried.
VII. Future Agenda Items and Next Meeting Date: No meeting date was set, but should meet around the end of
May.
VIII. Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 3:45 pm.
