HomeMy WebLinkAboutTourism & Fair Committee - Minutes - 11/16/2016K:\(Tourism Committee)\2017\Meeting minutes 11-16-2016.docx Minutes of the TOURISM COMMITTEE OF THE BAYFIELD COUNTY BOARD Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at 5:00 PM EOC Room, Bayfield County Annex Building, Washburn, WI Members Present: Brett Rondeau, Bill Bussey, Larry Fickbohm, Jeremy Oswald Members Absent: Rusty Williams Others Present: Mary Motiff, Tourism Director; Julie Fox, WI Dept. of Tourism I. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 5:00 PM by Rondeau. II. Motion Regarding September 21, 2016 Meeting Minutes: Motion (Bussey, Oswald) to approve the minutes from the September 21, 2016 committee meeting. Motion Carried. III. Public Input: There was no public input. IV. Review of Tourism Department Goals and Objectives: A. Introduction of Julie Fox, WI Dept. of Tourism – this item was postponed since Julie was not present at this time B. Measureable data was reviewed including Facebook and website statistics, year-to-date inquiries received in 2016 vs. 2015, Sales Tax and Advertising revenues. Julie Fox arrived at this time and was introduced to the committee. Julie shared some information about her background and the meeting that she came from with James Bolen from the Cable Area Chamber of Commerce. Fox and Motiff will be tourism the rest of Bayfield County this evening and all day on Thursday with stops in Washburn, Bayfield, Red Cliff, Cornucopia, Port Wing, Iron River, Delta, Drummond and Barnes. C. What’s new: Trail map apps – a demonstration was given on the Avenza app where the 2017-18 Bayfield County Snowmobile map has been geo-coded and uploaded and is available free to the public to find their way on the roads & trails in the county. D. What’s coming up: Snowmobile trail status – all Bayfield County trails should be repaired/cleared from summer storm damage and will be open for use; this is due in part to the agreement with the USDA Forest Service so that Bayfield County can contract out for trail repair on their trails. V. Discussion & Possible Action on Proposed 2017 Marketing Plan: Motiff reviewed the updated marketing plan with the committee. There will be more of a focus on online advertising in 2017 in order to better track results. Motion (Bussey, Oswald) to approve the 2017 Marketing Plan. Motion Carried. VI. Future Agenda Items and Next Meeting Date: The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, February 15 at 5:30 PM. Agenda items will include a review of measurable data. VIII.
