BAYFIELD COUNTY FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING
May 30, 2017 - 6:00 p.m.
EOC Room
Courthouse Annex – 117 E. 6th Street
Washburn, WI
MINUTES
1. Call To Order
The meeting was called to order by the Chair, James Crandall at 5:00 PM.
Members Present: James Crandall, Dennis Pocernich, Shawn Miller, Fred Strand,
Members Absent: Rusty Williams
Others Present: Mary Motiff, Tourism Director; Ursula Garrison, Fair Clerk
2. Approval of Minutes from April 24, 2017 Meeting
Motion (Strand/Pocernich) to approve the minutes of the April 24, 2017 meeting as presented.
Motion Carried.
3. Public Comment – There was no public comment.
4. Discussion and Possible Action on 2017 Fair Planning
a. New Category for Commercial Vendors
i. Arts & Crafts Vendors - Discussion regarding creation of a special category of
commercial vendor for “Arts & Crafts”. This category would have reduced hours and a
two-day option.
ii. Change in hours for Commercial Vendors - Discussion regarding reduction in hours for
commercial vendors (excluding Food Vendors)
Motion (Miller/Pocernich) to approve proposed changes to Commercial Vendors category as
presented. Motion Carried.
5. Update from the Director
a. Buildings and Grounds Projects
i. Electric Assessment – Discussion regarding Rick Boya’s specs for electrical power
distribution system. Committee is awaiting Boya’s recommendation to proceed.
Tentative dates have been selected for the Committee to meet with Powrtek
Engineering.
ii. Wireless – Dave Olson from Norvado met with Paul Houck, Jim Crandall, Mark Abeles-
Allison and Mary Motiff regarding the options for providing better Wi-Fi at the fairgrounds
and presented a proposal that was in the packet.
Consensus of the committee was to proceed with the proposed plan since it is already in
the budget.

iii. Barn doors – Repairs are ongoing. Maintenance staff is doing the work.
iv. Dairy goat pens – Additional temporary pens are needed for the dairy goats. Motiff has
been in touch with Ted Kramolis, Dairy Superintendent, about the issue. Williams met
with Theresa Rusch and John Mesik to go over needs.
v. Showers – We are awaiting an estimate to begin repairs.
b. Other Administrative Items – Discussion regarding letter of support for Dave Barbicovi of
Spectrum Entertainment, LLC.
Consensus of the Committee is to have Motiff proceed with sending the letter on the
Bayfield County Fair letterhead.
6. Future Agenda Items and Next Meeting Date
Naming Rights Policy
Unreserved use of Horse Arena safety concerns and need for policy
Next meeting date will be either June 19 or June 26 depending on the availability of Rick Boya
7. Adjournment
