Minutes of the
BAYFIELD TOURISM/FAIR COMMITTEE
Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 4:30 PM
EOC Room, Bayfield County Annex Building, Washburn, WI
Members Present: Larry Fickbohm, Jeremy Oswald, James Crandall, Fred Strand
Members Absent: Tom Snilsberg
Others Present: Mary D. Motiff, Tourism Director; Ursula M. Garrison, Fair Coordinator; Scott Williams, Fair
Groundskeeper; Christine Beeksma, Sarah Kreinbring
I. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 4:30 PM by James Crandall.
II. Election of Committee Chair and Vice-Chair:
Motion to nominate Larry Fickbohm as Chair (Strand)
Motion to close nominations for Chair (Crandall)
Motion to nominate Jeremy Oswald as Vice-Chair (Strand)
Motion to close nominations for Vice-Chair (Crandall)
RESOLVED, that the following individuals were duly nominated and unanimously elected to serve as
described:
Larry Fickbohm, Chair
Jeremy Oswald, Vice-Chair
III. Motion (Strand/Crandall) to approve the minutes from the February 27, 2018 Fair Committee
Meeting. Motion Carried.
Motion (Fickbohm/Oswald) to approve the minutes from the February 28, 2018 Tourism Meeting.
Motion Carried.
IV. Public Comment: Christine Beeksma reminded the committee of the decision to hire a separate judge
for the Fair and is here to find out why that hasn’t happened.
V. Discussion on Possibility of Winter Storage Lease Agreement with Local Business
Motiff presented a proposal from a local business. Committee discussed the proposal and the
consensus was that unless the terms are more favorable regarding the revenue for the county, they
would not be interested in pursuing this arrangement. There were also questions as to the security of
the buildings if we need to give out keys to multiple buildings to a lessee. If the business wishes to
pursue further discussions, this will be an action item on an upcoming agenda.
VI. Discussion and Possible Action on Process for Choosing Judges
Motiff gave background regarding last year’s decision to obtain a separate judge for Fair Horse Project.
Motion (Strand/Oswald) to keep the current judge that has already been lined up
