Motion (Strand/Crandall) to approve the minutes from the June 19, 2018, Fair Committee Meeting. Motion Carried. III. Public Comment – No public Comment IV. Tourism Update – Motiff gave the committee members an update on various Tourism topics. Sales taxes are up 25% from last year at this time; a recent interview Motiff had in WPR has generated a lot of requests from the public and positive feedback. Monthly Podcasts are also generating many requests from the public. Motiff also informed the committee about a new Vendor Ordinance recently passed by the Town of Iron River. Motiff will be attending the upcoming Town meeting to discuss this ordinance with town officials. V. Fair Review and Planning – Motiff shared with the committee the attendance summary and revenue sheets and discussion followed regarding our plans for a carnival for the next three years. There was committee consensus on having further discussions before signing a carnival contract. VI. Discussion and Possible Action on Potential New Fair Policies A. Inappropriate Subject Matter for Entries – This year we had an exhibit that was deemed to be violent and offensive to many people. Fair staff is drafted a policy to address this issue. The committee members want more specific language included in said policy such as, (Tobacco, sex, alcohol, discrimination, etc.) therefore, a more specific policy will be developed and presented to the committee members at a subsequent meeting. B. Minimum Age for Open Class Animal Entries – There is a recurring issue with regards to children exhibiting animals in Open Class at the Fair, which is something we do not allow at this time. Ursula checked with the State Fair and they allow children starting at age 5 to show in Open Class. Motion (Strand/ Snilsberg) to approve the same age requirements as the State Fair for children to show animals in Open Class.
