Minutes of the
BAYFIELD TOURISM & FAIR COMMITTEES
May 28, 2019 at 3:00 PM
EOC Room, Bayfield County Annex Building, 6th Street, Washburn, WI
Members Present: Larry Fickbohm (Arrived 3:30 PM), James Crandall, Fred Strand, Jeremy Oswald
Members Absent: Tom Snilsberg
Others Present: Mary D. Motiff, Tourism Director; Ursula M. Garrison, Fair Coordinator
I. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 3:12PM by Oswald.
II. Motion: (Strand/ Crandall) to approve the minutes from the March 26, 2019, Tourism/Fair
Committee Meetings. Motion Carried.
III. Public Comment – No public comment.
IV. Update on 2019 Fair Planning – Motiff reviewed Fair Planning with committee members including
status of Vendors, Entertainment, Judges, Premium List, Superintendents, Sponsors Volunteers and
Staff.
V. Discussion & Possible Action on Acceptance of Compeer Financial Grant – Motiff presented the
committee with the grant award letter for repairs to the Horse Barn Roof. The consensus of the
committee is to propose an amendment to our budget at the full board to accept this grant.
VI. Building & Grounds Update
A. Water Lines – New waterlines have been installed in the horse arena campsites.
B. Phase II Electrical Project - Motiff reported on the Phase II Electric project. The bid was won by Jolma
Electric. Work is scheduled to begin in mid-June.
C. Tree Planting Project – Tree planting should begin in June. Trees will need to be fenced immediately
after planted and watered periodically until established.
D. Groomer Building Lease – The Groomer Building lease is in the process of being re-negotiated.
VII. Tourism Update – Motiff reported on various aspects of Tourism including items like Sales Taxes,
which are up 8% overall in 2019 and Podcast, Facebook and Website Analytics, ATV Trails and staffing
updates. Motiff also hosted a “Social Media for Government” workshop for county employees.
VIII. Future Agenda Items and Next Meeting Date - Next meeting set for July 22, 2019 at 4:00 pm in the
EOC.
IX. Adjournment - The meeting adjourned at 4:25 PM.
