HomeMy WebLinkAboutTribal-County Relations Committee - Minutes - 5/16/2006Tribal Studies 051606 Page 1 of 2 Minutes of the Bayfield County Tribal Study Committee Meeting 10:00am, Tuesday, May 16, 2006 Red Cliff Fire Hall, Bayfield, WI Attending: Phil Gordon, Thomas Gordon, Leo LaFernier, Patricia DePerry, Mark Abeles- Allison, Others Present: Mark Abeles-Allison, Elizabeth Skulan, Charles Bresette, Robert Follis, Diane Heapy, Paul Susienka Meeting called to order by Patricia DePerry at 10:00am. Motion by Phil Gordon, second by Tom Gordon to approve the minutes of the March 1, 2006 meeting. Motion Carried AODA/MISHOMIS HOUSE FUNDING UPDATE: Skulan reported that so far in 2006, $19,000 has been spend for care related to Red Cliff residents. The budget is $16,000. Skulan and Jan Karlen met with representatives of the tribe to work on a 2007 budget. A contract for 2007 is also being worked on. AGRICULTURE PROJECTS: DePerry and Abeles-Allison provided updates on both tribal and non-tribal agriculture projects. Abeles-Allison will put the County Ag Agent in touch with DePerry. LAW ENFORCEMENT: A request was made by DePerry for extended visitation hours at the County Jail. Follis reported that the jail is open for visitation between 8am-4pm Monday through Friday, by appointment. The group discussed comradery and communication between the Sheriff’s Department and the Red Cliff Police Department. Discussion was held regarding mutual aid, particularly at night. DePerry requested that the Sheriff’s Department spend more time patrolling in Red Cliff. Brief discussion was held regarding a specific incident and also about domestic abuse laws. LaFernier commented on the role of Game Wardens and the GLIFWL. COUNTY-TRIBAL LAND COMMITTEE: Brief discussion was held regarding tribal land issues, particularly the Davidson Zoning issue. OTHER ITEMS: Karl Kastrosky will meet with DePerry regarding the Davidson issue and zoning in general Next Meeting: The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 18 at 10:00am at the Bayfield County Courthouse.
