CHILDREN’S COMMUNITY OPTIONS PROGRAM ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING
Bayfield County Courthouse via Teams Meeting & Phone
Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.
Committee Members Present: Hayley Weyers, Anna Hanson (by Teams), Michelle Lampson (by Teams at 10:23)
Committee Members Absent: Sherri Paulson
Others Present: Heather Gilbertson (by Teams), Mary Anich, Jessica Zakovec – WIC Bayfield County (by Teams)
Call to order: Weyers called the meeting to order at 10:31 when quorum was met. (Informational meeting was being
held prior and started at 10:04)
Discussion and Possible Action - Review/adoption of minutes from January 9, 2024, meeting:
Motion by Weyers, seconded by Hanson to approve the January 9, 2024, meeting minutes.
Motion passed.
Guest Presentation Series-Jessica Zakovec, Women, Infants & Children (WIC):
Bay Area WIC program– Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, & Children.
Office is in Ashland and serves Ashland, Bayfield, and Iron Counties.
Eligibility: all foster kids under the age of 5, women who are pregnant or post-partum, infants, and children
under 5.
Annual certification is required and then nutrition education and contact is done quarterly.
Fit Families Program: targets 2–4-year-olds. Empower families to adopt healthy eating and physical activity
behaviors.

Committee Participants:
Enrollment Report: The program has 44 active enrollments and 9 active referrals.
Alice Wilson was hired as an additional Full-Time Case Worker.
Weyers is hoping that the program can service these 9 referrals soon as Wilson takes on more of a case load.
Other Informational Items:
Invited presenter Hayley BeBeau-Behavioral Health Case Manager on May 14 to discuss Mental Health
Services offered by Bayfield County.
Invited presenter Jamie Mackin – Disability Benefit Specialist on July 9 to talk about about SSI and SSDI
services offered by Bayfield County.
Lampson suggested a presentation or information from someone knowledgeable about summer camps and
respite opportunities for kids.
The May agenda will include discussion and possible action to formally appoint a Chairperson and Vice
Chairperson for the committee.
CST – Coordinated Services Team is a new program that needs to be assigned to a committee. The DHS Board is
considering merging the CCOPAC with CST. A decision will be made sometime before the end of the year.
