Consultant – Nutrition Specialist Greater Wisconsin Agency on Aging Resources
Pam VanKampen, GWAAR shared ideas and options for purposes of reopening congregate meal
sites. VanKampen noted that a few counties have already opened back up at 25% capacity and noted
that Grab & Go meals are allowable until the end of the calendar year under the federal emergency
mandate. Linder shared that Grab & Go in Iron River, Wi started April 1st and has already seen
growth in participants, and she believes the growth has come primarily from word of mouth with
hopes it will continue to grow. VanKampen and Linder discussed multiple ideas regarding ways to
provide more meals, items discussed were “My Meal My Way”, rotating days and restaurants
throughout the county. This could allow for more congregate meal options, and ways to better serve
isolated areas with little nutritional resources.
