BAYFIELD COUNTY PLANNING AND ZONING COMMITTEE
MAY 15, 2014 AT 4:00 P.M.

The Bayfield County Planning and Zoning Committee of the County Board of
Supervisors will hold a public hearing on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 4:00 P.M. in the
Board Room of the Bayfield County Courthouse in Washburn Wisconsin relative to the
following:
Town of Bayfield, owner and Tom Gordon, agent are petitioning for a zoning district
map amendment located in a shoreland/wetland zone. The parcel is a 1.79-acre parcel
(part of Tax ID #’s 34713; 4306; & 4325), described as the West 167 feet of the North ¼
of the NE ¼ of the SE ¼, the South 66 feet of the SW ¼ of the NE ¼, lying East of Lot 1
of CSM #1565 and the South 66 feet of the West 167 feet of the SE ¼ of the NE ¼, all
in Section 1, Township 50 North, Range 4 West, Town of Bayfield, Bayfield County, WI
from agricultural-one (Ag-1) to commercial (C). (* Note: parcels within one thousand (1,000) feet
landward of the ordinary high water mark of navigable lakes, ponds or flowages or within three hundred (300) feet
landward of the ordinary high water mark of navigable rivers or streams or to the landward side of the floodplain,
whichever distance is greater is deemed a shoreland and/or wetland zone).
A petition by Rob Schierman, Director of Planning and Zoning, on behalf of the
Bayfield County Planning and Zoning Committee, requesting amendments to the
Bayfield County Zoning Code, including the following:
1. To amend the fee schedule in Section 13-1-21 to clarify that the Planning and
Zoning Director has sole discretion to waive the doubling of fees for a failure to
obtain a permit prior to construction except that the Planning and Zoning
Committee may consider such a request if it is denied by the Planning and
Zoning Director;
2. To amend Class B special use application procedures under Section 13-1-41A to
create a deadline for payment of recording fees for affidavits pertaining to special
use permits;
3. To include as a Class A special use in Section 13-1-62(a) on-premises signs
(UVOD) in certain zoning districts;
4. To create Section 13-1-82(a)(4) allowing businesses within unincorporated village
overlay districts to erect one LED sign under the terms of that section;
5. To amend Section 13-1-103(d) to allow the Planning and Zoning Director and, if
the Planning and Zoning Director should deny an applicant, to allow the Planning

and Zoning Committee to use discretion on the waiver of penalty fees for the
failure to obtain a permit prior to construction.
Copies of the petition and proposed amendment are available upon request from
the Bayfield County Planning and Zoning Office in Washburn, Wisconsin.
Immediately following the public hearing, the Bayfield County Planning and
Zoning Committee may approve or disapprove the proposed amendment and formulate
and adopt its recommendation to the Bayfield County Board of Supervisors.
All interested parties are invited to attend said hearing to be heard. Any person wishing
to attend who, because of a disability, requires special accommodations, should contact
the Planning and Zoning office at 373-6138, at least 24 hours before the scheduled
meeting time, so appropriate arrangements can be made. Immediately after the public
hearing, the Planning and Zoning Committee will hold its regular monthly meeting.
