HomeMy WebLinkAboutTourism & Fair Committee - Minutes - 7/10/2024 Minutes of the Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 3:00 PM Bayfield County Fairgrounds Members Present: Larry Fickbohm, James Crandall, Dennis Pocernich, Marty Milanowski, and Rich Nemitz Members Absent: None Others Present: Mary D. Motiff, Tourism Director; David Eades, Fair Coordinator; Marla Lahti, 4-H Market Sale Chair I. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Fickbohm at 3:00pm. II. Motion Regarding May 7, 2024, Tourism-Fair Committee Meeting Minutes: Motion to approve February minutes (Crandall/Milanowski); motion carried. III. Public Comment: – Limited to 3 minutes per person. – Motiff handed out some information from Representative Tiffany on the designation of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore to a National Park. IV. Discussion and Possible Action on Fairgrounds Budget Items A. Non- Fair Camping Fees: Motion to raise the camping fees from $10 for primitive site to $15 and from $15 for an improved site to $20 (Crandall/Milanowski). Motion passed. B. Increase Premiums paid out: Motion to increase the premiums paid out by the Fair to the state maximum (Milanowski/Nemitz). Motion passed. V. Discussion and Possible Action on 2025 Department Budget Motiff gave an overview of the proposed budget for 2025. Motion to approve 2025 budget as presented (Milanowski/Crandall). Motion passed. VI. Building and Grounds Update A. Maintenance Projects and Staffing: Eades reported that they are maintaining the work that needed to be done at the Fairgrounds and that he has been working at the fairgrounds a couple of days a week to help until a new person can be hired. B. Market Sale Improvements: Matla Lahti gave an overview of projects that the 4-H Market Sale Committee would like to pay for the following upgrades at the Fairgrounds: additional outlets in the Beef Barn, Fan control for exhaust fan in Beef Barn, lights in the Sheep Barn, and bleachers for the Market Sale Pavilion. Motion to approve work to be done by Market Sale Committee as long as they follow all the requirements set forth by the County for contactors (Crandall/Milanowski). Motion passed. VII. Tourism Report from Director A. Department Goals & Objectives with Activities – no discussion B. Measurable Data Review Including Analytics & Sales Tax Motiff presented economic impact numbers from the Sate of WI, sales tax, inquiry statistics, social media data, etc. and reviewed action items pertaining to the department goals and objectives. VIII. Future Agenda Items and Next Meeting Date: No future agenda items. Motiff will send a poll after the Fair for the next meeting. IX. Adjournment: Meeting adjourned at 4:30pm by Fickbohm. X.
