QUESTION
|Khat measurements are made to determine the diameter for calculation of the
effective absorption area of a seepage pit?
ANSWER
|[odetermine the total usable diameter of a seepage pit for calculating the
effective absorption area, measure the inside diameter of the walled-up
chamber, add twice the width of the block and add twice the six inches of
Hggregate-filled space. Regardless of the diameter of the excavation, the
ffective absorption area extends to no more than six inches beyond the
utside of the walled-up chamber. See sketch below.
OTE: The left-hand column in Table 3, chapter H 63, does not correctly
include the annular space. Therefore, to be correct with the rest of
the Table, each number in the left-hand column must be increased by 1.

n's letter will hopefully clear up any concerns over the sizing of seepage
lits as per our phone conversation of May 7, 1981. In the current Wisconsin
n'mstrative Code, chapter H 63, Table 3, gives you the effective absorption
for seepage pits. The diameters listed include the one foot annular
Ipace that is provided around the seepage area itself. To make myself clearer,
Bn example would be, a 7 foot inside diameter with a depth below inlet of 6
|eet would provide 151 square feet of absorption area. This area would in
jrn include the annular space plus the block space, so the entire diameter may
9 feet from edge to edge. The arinular area has been included in the sizing
it is unnecessary to add it. The block area provides no absorption area so
me would not include that.
[he formula used to arrive at the square footage figures is [(inside diameter
annular space) x 3.14] x depth below inlet. An example would be: how many
square feet of absorption area with a inside diameter of 9 feet and a depth
isstow inlet of 7 feet [(9 ft. + 1 ft.) x 3.14] x 7 = 219.8 or 220 square
Feet. If you refer back to the table this is the figure they list as correct.

Hi,
I think Trent may have sent you a message regarding us needing the impervious surface calculation. In
addition to that, it's unclear how many bedrooms you are adding on. The application indicates 2 existing
bedrooms and 2 proposed bedrooms. But your plans only indicate 1 additional bedroom. We need to
know the total number of bedrooms so that we can assess if your existing sanitation system can
accommodate the higher load. I found information on your existing drain field, and it only has the
capacity for 1 bedroom. This will need to be addressed before we can issue your permit. When you verify
the total number of bedrooms I can give you some options. Have you contacted a plumber yet to work
on this?
