I am submitting the Land Use Permit Application that you supplied to me along with sketches depicting the location and items involved. The project is to replace the bearing walls (completed) with block walls, replace the unsafe entry pit and improve the basement for storage use. (see attachments land 2) The side of the building the entry pit is on faces Lake Road. Lake Road and County Road N have been moved closer to the Museum building resulting in improper setback. The old pit was about 52' from Lake Road and the new pit is about 55' from Lake Road. (see attachment 2) This specific part of the project is to replace the approximately 100 year old entry pit for the exterior entrance to the basement. The old pit had unsafe stairs that had been poured long ago and were of inconsistent dimensions and had no handrails. Instead of replacing those steps, we will use an industrial lift so that items sent down for storage will be moved with the lift instead of carrying them down a stairway for better safety. Egress will be via a permanent ladder rather than a stairway as a proper 7" rise/11" tread would take about 12 feet of pit length. (attachment 3 shows the front and left side view of the pit.) The left side view on attachment 4 shows the egress ladder and grab rails, the egress door and the lift location. Attachment 4 also shows the roofline. Attachments 5A and 5B are the lift specifications. The old pit had plywood cellar doors, and the new access will have regular service doors. Also attached is a letter of approval granting me authority to represent BAHA on this project. Thank you for your attention.
