Code, to estimate the depth of seasonal soil saturation based on an interpretive determination process completed by Ed Redinger, Certified Soil Tester (CST), and his recommendations. • This approval is limited to the soil characteristics within the tested area. This approval is based upon best management practices and does not warranty the functioning of the system. Water conservation, wastewater disposal practices, and system maintenance will aid in the longevity of the system. • This approval is limited to the soil characteristics within the specified depths and does not include an interpretation of the redoximorphic features found outside of the specified pits and horizons. • An on -site visit was conducted by Katie Petzel, DSPS, on April 27"- 2026, and July 1st, 2022. • The estimated highest level of prolonged soil saturation approved under this determination is at least 8 Inches below grade. At least 28 inches of sand lift on top of 8 inches of unsaturated soil is required. • Surface water shall be diverted away from the mound system. • Care shall be taken not to drive on the mound site during wet conditions to avoid compaction of the site. Keep 6" of sand under track machines when constructing per the recommendations of Ed Redinger, CST. • The basal soil application rate for the mound shall be no greater than 0.4 gpd/sf. per the recommendations of Ed Redinger, CST. • The contour elevation shall be 98.8' per the recommendations of Ed Redinger, CST. • A copy of this approval letter and attachments must accompany the system design for this site for the purposes of plan approval and sanitary permit issuance. Redinger — CST# 221939 The intent is to show saturation does not occur in the mound site and the insitu soil will accommodate the waste water from the Home. The Home on this site is the Family's old Home Stead. It has been in the family for 3 generations. The site has been farmed for many years and is currently farmed. It is more of a Hobby Farm so the home is not occupied year-round. It is used for family gatherings and other occasions. The home is currently served by a 3 bedroom mound system which was installed in 2021 converting from a Holding tank. The owner would like to install a 2nd mound for effluent dispersal. As the family grows and there are more grandchildren the family gatherings/get togethers have more people so they would like to add the additional mound. This will connect to the Garage/Rec room building and a hand washing sink in the shop. Use will still be intermittent so we feel the soils will sufficiently handle the wastewater. HISTORY AND TOPOGRAPHY The Mason area is on the edge of the glacial lake Superior. It has sandy loam alluvial soils with some areas being more sandy than others due to melt run off from the glaciers. The site contains the Superior-Sedgwick complex of 0-6% slopes. The underlying Clayey lacustrine deposits will collect and hold water in the lower areas. The general slope is 1-2%. The area chosen for the Mound dispersal Cell is well drained due to the Farming practices through the years to divert water runoff from the field. There is a slight "ridge" on which the mound will be placed with diversion on both sides. The 2nd mound will be installed parallel to the existing mound on the North side with the required separation between the two. No saturation was evident at the time of the soil evaluation. Redox features found were few and faint 10-13" below the surface. CONCLUSION Due to some added grading to ensure surrounding surface water flows away from the mound area this site will effectively accommodate infiltration from the wastewater produced here. With no Redox features in the top 10" of the A horizon it confirms the site will dry out and does not stay saturated for long periods. This is further confirmed by the absence of hydric soils In the upper horizons. As per SPS 383.44(3) the site is suitable for a POWiS Mound with more than 6" of unsaturated soil.
